Most of the highly regarded and well written BBQ joints around Austin are usually sold out by early afternoon. If they're still open after that, wait until the next day and git there before 11:00AM!

Nope. There should be no lines at all on Friday night.

I've heard everything is sold at Franklin by 13:00.

Stiles hasn't been that bad in my experience. My last trip there we did them on a Friday night without more than a 10 minute line.

At least the day I went (after a trip to JMueller earlier in the day), I'd rank Stiles noticeably lower than JMueller and Franklin.... but it was still some really good BBQ. And certainly something to be said for a place where you can get BBQ with a lot of drama.

My son in Austin tells me really good things about both Stiles Switch and J. Mueller.

Lance Kirpatrick, the former lead pitmaster at Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor is now the lead pitmaster at Stiles Switch. No wonder it's been so highly rated.

I agree that Stiles Switch is really good. The J. Mueller trailer was super as well.

I know this thread is about Franklin's ,but for those less willing to wait there's another newbie in town with pretty good barbeque and that's Stile's Switch. And it's right across the street from the Yellow Rose, so if you're so inclined you can get some pretty good BBQ and a pole dance all withing walking distance.

Franklin's is my all time favorite. I get there by 9:15 am and usually end up no deeper than 5th in line.

I suggest getting there early and being prepared to wait and wait and wait. That said you will not be sorry, that is if he doesn't run out. I spoke with Aaron while picking up and order (yes you can order a couple of days ahead and just go pick it up without the wait.) and he is trying to get more cookers so he won't keep running out of meat.
