Luckily, at my favorite steak place( 5 O'Clock club) they serve a delightful relish tray along with your meal. They charge extra for a baked potato, so I never order that. But, our table always orders a side of steak fries..the best I have ever had.
Surprisingly, Ruby Tuesdays, which we go to on occasion, has great, perfectly cooked vegetables, and several to choose from( no medlys, if I am not mistaken)
Re:Restaurant side dishes (CCinNJ)

 A side of asparagus at (recently-closed) Ben Benson's in NYC....was $14.50.

Re:Restaurant side dishes (CCinNJ)

That's like two birds with one stone! I got a prime rib sandwich which was pretty good and juicy but they felt they had to add to it but putting in some raw red peppers. I also had a streak fritte which had leaves of something and balsamic vinegar. Yuck. I kind of like my steak or whatever to be the main event and skip and sides or add on's.
Re:Restaurant side dishes (mar52)

 I wouldn't touch them, either.

Total waste of food.
Re:Restaurant side dishes (FriedClamFanatic)

As I pointed out in my comments on appetizers, I often let the veggies go back too. Either they are lukewarm, which means i have to scoff them down before eating anything else............or they are just plain insipid. ONCE in a GREAT While, you get some good sides in an upsacle rstaurant, but for my money, the only time I really like the sides are in down and far from dirty roadfood type places
Re:Restaurant side dishes (Michael Hoffman)

One of my favorite dishes is liver and onions, and they do a wonderful version of that at a place here called Cap City Diner. But, they put carrots and broccoli on the plate with the liver, onions, bacon and mashed potatoes and they take crisp beyond too far. In fact, both the carrots and the broccoli are difficult to cut with a knife. These things I do not touch.
Re:Restaurant side dishes (CCinNJ)

 Usually warm.
