A Firehouse Subs place opened a mile and a half from me about a month ago. I've never been there, but the parking lot is usually pretty full whenever I go by. It's located across the intersection from the high school.

Yeah, I looked them all up. Jason's is in big cities, but nowhere I usually go. Cookout appears to be VERY regional, in only 3-4 states (primarily North Carolina). And Firehouse looks to have about the same geographic smattering as Jason's.

Not a thing, really, I was just commenting that they must not be widely available chains.

we have Jason's Deli in the Chicago area, just walked by the Naperville outlet today on the way to Naf Naf, an Israeli restaurant.

Cookout? Jason's Deli? Firehouse? Must be regional chains...never heard of them either here in Michigan or anywhere I've traveled in the US. Although it's been years since I was on the East coast; I tend to spend more time on the Gulf coast and out West.

Out of the options listed, I would rank them in this order.

1. Wendy's
2. Sonic
3. McDonald's
4. KFC
5. Burger King

BK and KFC are just plain sad anymore. The Whopper lost it's way and KFC's chicken tasted like an overpriced salt lick(this coming from a salt-a-holic). McDonald's is, well McDonald's. Not much needs to be said about them. I enjoy Sonic from time to time, but I rarely go out of my way to eat at one. Actually, the last time I went to one was just to get a couple of bags of ice. Of the ones we had to choose from, Wendy's tops the list due to their spicy chicken sandwich and better tasting burgers.

Going outside the parameters, when it comes to fast food chicken, Popeye's and Chick-Fil-A top the list.

The best place for fast burgers at a decent price? Cookout. You can get a grilled quarter pound burger and a large fry for under $5, and it's much better than Five Guys. I do enjoy Five Guys though, but it makes no sense to pay four dollars more for the same thing, when Cookout is practically right next door in neck my of the woods. They also make really good shakes I might add.

Might as well add sub chains to the discussion. Subway is not very good, nor worth it, as none of their foot longs should cost more than $5. Panera is good but overpriced for what you get, and Quizno's is never convenient, nor worthy of the cost as well. Of all the chains, Jason's Deli and Firehouse offer the best bang for your buck.

Using the original 5 fast food chain choices given, I agree with the order given by tkitna and chewingthefat.

Picking my own top 5 fast food chains, I'd probably rank them as:

1. Five Guys
2. Steak 'N' Shake
3. Fatburger (They're only in 8 states. Nearest to me is in MD)
4. Chick-fil-A
5. Hardees (for their biscuits and hot ham & cheese)

If very small, very localized fast food chains are allowed, I'd add:

Walt's Roast Beef (5 locations in RI).
Jake's Wayback Burger (In northern DE and northeastern MD)

EDIT: I just looked up Jake's Wayback Burgers. Apparently, they are not as small anymore. There were just a handful of locations in northern DE a few years ago. Now, they are in 15 states with about 60 locations.

Sonic's jalapeno burger is really good, but in Ohio you can get one only at the Nelsonville store, and that's some 70 miles from here.

Burgerville is a regional/local chain in the Oregon/washington area. I have heard they are spreading out further, but haven't seen the details of that. maybe Mr Chips can give us the word.
Burgerville does a good job... first Sweet Potatoes French fries I ever had.

Back in the 70's there was one in Willingboro on US 130. I used to drive the 25 or so miles each way now and then to get a "Greasy Taco Boost" !! No idea if it is still there???

We used to have Jack in the Box in Illinois almost 35 years ago. After sometime out drinking we used to love to go to the drive up and make some dumb (funny?) comment into Jack's head (the speaker)

I'm surprised to see how many ranked Sonic so high. About a year or so ago, we finally got a Sonic near by and I was NOT impressed at all. The only thing that was decent were the real fruit slushies and those aren't that good anymore either. With that being said,
1. Burger King (whopper)
2. McDonalds (fries)
3. Wendys (chili)
4. Sonic (slushies, happy hour 1/2 off)
5. KFC (when all else fails)

3.Sonic We have two here in town, and for me when the weather is nice i can walk over there from the house, and sit at the table, and eat out side.This is the one on FM78, the one up at IH35 N and FM3009 I have to drive to.
4.Chester's a local San Antonio Chain,which brought back their poppyseed buns,Yeah.
5.Bracken Cafe, out in Bracken,Tx, just a little ways up the road from me.It's no chain, but their burgers are really good.
Haven't been to Burger King or Red Robin in years.

I can't stand eating in the car, either. Some Sonics have tables outside, but you can only eat there in decent weather. As I seldom pass Sonics, I think I may have actually eaten at one twice. Maybe three times, but no more than that.
