Free refills on all the sides. I skip the cole slaw-I dont' eat it anywhere, and we skip the rice. The biscuts are yummy little morsels, the cream peas are too die for, my daughter goes just for them! The chicken is super!! I always get honey to put on the biscuts and the chicken. This place has been here Forevah! Superquick service and boy does it get packed. I also love the Secret Garden Cafe on Beach Blvd. east of Southside Blvd. It is tucked in a stripmall so keep your eyes peeled. Homemade food and to die for Coconut Cake!! I learned the hard way order your cake when your order your food. You snooze, you lose!! Bomba's is west of Southside still on Beach Blvd. Food is home cooked. The owner is biker friendly and certain nights it is packed with bikes and has a band that plays in the outside seating area. If you don't eat anything else there, pray Michelle has baked Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie that day. This pie is AWESOME!! My husband and I have been enjoying this pie for over 20 years! Just ordered one from her for Christmas. Out on Mayport Road right by the exchange is Bongiorno's. This place does a Philly Cheesesteak justice. They get their meat from Jersey and they fly in Amaroso rolls. They also sell Tastykakes, although since Flowers bought Tastykake you can buy them everywhere. Only thing missing is Birch Beer and I feel like I am in NEPA visiting the family. Went to Metro Diner once-the original site-found a hair under my hash browns. I know stuff happens but the way they handled it made me promise I would never go back-and I never had. They built a Waffle House upthe street and that made me a happy girl! Enjoy!! My parents live in Atlantic Beach, east of Beach Road Chicken Dinners. I love it there! You do have to call ahead as they are not open daily and they can close on a whim. It's been a while so I can't recite the menu but I love their fried chicken. It is a no frills place and what stood out was the service. The waitress could not have been nicer! I hope to be heading there in the next month with some new recruits! Let me know if you head to JAX!!!
Re:Places in Jacksonvile (crew84row)

buffetbuster

The place in Jacksonville I want to try out the next time in town is Beach Road Chicken Dinners. It just looks like Roadfood to me. Anyone ever been there?

BB, About 4 years ago, while on a business trip in the area, we had a meal there. Good chicken as I recall. Sides were okay, standard stuff. It did get crowded with locals though. Sorry been too many meals under the belt and no food porn for this meal. Worth a side detoru to say you've been but not a repeater as we've been in JAX several times since and never even crossed our minds to go there.

For the OP...you might look into Moon River Pizza on Edgewood, west of 295/I-10 or Jenkins BBQ on Pearl. If you liked Singleton's try Chowder Teds across the river on Heckscher Blvd east of 295. Or Juniors Seafood on North Main.
Re:Places in Jacksonvile (Cynder)

buffetbuster

The place in Jacksonville I want to try out the next time in town is Beach Road Chicken. It just looks like Roadfood to me. Anyone ever been there?

My sister and I end up there about once a year - we get nostalgic for the fried chicken and creamed peas (an acquired taste). The chicken is truly excellent, the biscuits are good and the plethora of sides are not so good.
Re:Places in Jacksonvile (plb)

buffetbuster

The place in Jacksonville I want to try out the next time in town is Beach Road Chicken Dinners. It just looks like Roadfood to me. Anyone ever been there?

I drove by it year or so ago, but it was closed on that day (Monday). It is in a travel book I have called "The Best Places to Eat in America" that is older that my oldest Roadfood book.

Brisketboy - Check out the recent discussion topic here about Jacksonville "Riders."

Re:Places in Jacksonvile (buffetbuster)

The place in Jacksonville I want to try out the next time in town is Beach Road Chicken Dinners. It just looks like Roadfood to me. Anyone ever been there?
Re:Places in Jacksonvile (brisketboy)

They still do the oyster thing at Sliders?

Re:Places in Jacksonvile (Cynder)

Mojo's on Beach in Jacksonville Beach is my favorite for BBQ
Places in Jacksonvile (brisketboy)

 Hi folks
I have been sent to this lovely city yet again and while my primary focus is Naval Station Mayport I know there are wonderful places well withindriving distance. But first, I was watching DDD yesterday from my hotel and they were featuring the Metro Grill. Have any of you local eaters been and if so what do you think? I have already done Singleton's twice and am looking to strike out. St. Augustine is on this weekends agenda but I am flexible to a fault.
