Emil's did the repass (funeral meal) after my father's death 12 years ago. Needless to say, there were no leftovers. Everyone went back for seconds and thirds.
Their fish sandwiches are HUGE and their steak sandwich is just that, a hand cut steak on a roll. Be advised that Slovak food (stuffed cabbage, halushki) is not always on the regular menu. Call in advance to see if it is offered before you drop in for a bite to eat.

Slovak food sounds really good! We would love to join you and Lori for dinner one night. Maybe we should set something up, preferably after the holidays.

The descriptions of Emil's from the special said that they served "Hunkie (Slovak) American food" and particularly praised the giant fish sandwich.

Thursday night had a new special from Rick Sebak, connected to his 25 years of making specials for WQED: 25 Things I Like About Pittsburgh.

For a limited time, it's available on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/wa...Q&feature=youtu.be .

It includes discussions of two places of particular Roadfood interest. At about 45 minutes in, there's a segment on Tessaro's that really captures what I find so special about the place. And then near the end (#23 of 25), there's a segment on Emil's in Rankin that makes me eager to visit there. (Buffetbuster, would you be interested in visiting Emil's together?)

Also, Rick mentioned that Christmas night will include bring us another Rick Sebak special: Breakfast Special 2: Revenge of the Omelets.
