I have an evil craving for this one, and will probably make it this weekend:

Lime Jello Salad

1 package lime Jello, mixed as directed and chilled in a 9"x9" square pan.

Topping:

1 pkg. lime Jello (only make with 1 c. hot water)
1 small can crushed pineapple, drained
1 c. grated cream cheese
1 1/2 c. mini marshmallows
pinch salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 pint whipping cream (whipped)

Mix together, pour atop the lime Jello already chilled, chill and hoover. It helps to mix the sugar in the Jello with the cup of hot water. Delightful stuff.

We had some of my too- intensely flavored jelly shots left over after St Patrick's Day dinner, so Mrs Seafarer poured a dollop of heavy cream over them and it was a great dessert after a meal of the leftover corned beef and cabbage...

Once I borrowed the kids Play-Doh Extruder to make bread sticks with interesting shapes. Worked fine for while, but was not made for such heavy work. I broke it, caught Hell from Mrs Seafarer and was under death thret from the kids 'till i bought a new one- which i was forbidden to use.

pogo, that looks positively yummy! Pimento stuffed green olive gelatin with.....what are the white things? Popcorn? Marshmallows? And what are the cups surrounding this abomination? What are they stuffed with? I think I'll pass and have the Snappy Mackerel Casserole for lunch.

SJ: Good for you! That sounds classy! I'll have to try that one. I made the 'standard' Jell-o shooters with lime Jello-- now I can't keep my hand out of the refrigerator. If you come up with any more variations I would love to try them.

I did it yesterday- St Patrick's Day. I gelled up some green "jelly shots"
from Vodka and Creme de Menthe. My guests were overwhelmed! That is to say they were nearly overcome- the flavor was so intense and my servings were too generous.

I was afraid of an insipid flavor, so I used 4 oz. of water to 6 oz. of Vodka and 2 oz. of Creme de Menthe. That looked so pretty that I decided to top it off with a similar mixture of Vodka and Creme de Cocao and a bit of yellow food coloring to make the color of the golden harp. In all I had 16 oz. of gelled fun, distributed between three 6 oz yogurt containers. It unmolded perfectly with a quivering green mound surmounting the golden base.
I served it after dinner, but before the Irish Coffee - which seemed about right as a "palate cleanser" between courses. One tablespoon of "Grayslake" plain gelatin was sufficient for the pint of jelly. Next time, I'll try the Martini jelly with a slightly more watery mix and serve it at the cocktail hour.

I know you'll love these things. The cups I use are made by Solo Cup Company (Urbana, IL 61802-2895) They are called Paper Souffles (1/2 oz) No. 38. I guess you could get rid of the cup like watermelon seed but I just sqeeze on the cup like it's a grape and dispose of the cup like a grape hull.

As a matter of fact I think I'll make some lime flavored ones for St. Patty's... Any reason is a good reason to have these little lovelies around. Enjoy!

Scarlett: What a neat solution to a slippery problem - little cups that you just pop in your mouth - guess you just spit it out like a watermellon seed. It will certainly be a part of my experiments- if I can find the cups...

The Jello Shooters are made with any flavor Jello you like.

At Christmas I make a strawberry batch and a lime batch.
I dissolve the Jello in 1/2 to 1 cup boiling water and put it in the refrigerator to chill. Use chilled vodka for the other cup of liquid. I pour the chilled 'goody' in small paper cups - the kind some restaurants use for small servings of catchup. When they are all chilled and firm - just put the cup in your mouth and squeez the cup. Yummmm

I plan to try the Jelly Bites and I hope you enjoy the shooters if you decide to give them a try.

SJ: Being lazy, I'd rather leave the research up to you, and then go along with your findings, one way or the other. I'm a purist, so I would NEVER use flavored Jello in a Martini Jelly Shot--only unflavored will suffice for me.

Scarlett: It looks like you are way ahead of us. They seem to be the same thing, with the possible exception that Jelly shots are apparently usually made with plain gelatin while Jello Shooters , I guess, are made with flavored jello. Let us know your experience with these things...

Kim Chee: That is one of the obstacles we will have to overcome in our reasearch. When and how to serve those presumably delectible little bites of booze? I did not have the time yesterday to start the experiment, and this afternoon does'nt look any better - maybe tomorrow when we are snowed in will prove to be the time I need to get started. If you try it out, keep us posted on your findings...

Just curious...how are you supposed to serve those Jelly Shots? With a toothpick and olive attached to each one (as in hors d'ouvre-style)? In a martini glass with a spoon (as in dessert-style)?

Thanks, Grampy: The Jelly Shots look just like what I was asking about. I think I'll start an experiment this afternoon with a Martini. But, I'm not sure where they belong in the dinner- after the entree and before the salad? After dinner but before the cofffee and dessert? Should they accompany cheese? Seems like I'll have to woork this out over a series of dinners - tough work, but someone has to do it...
