(Ladycopa)

Hey Edwmax I checked out prices of 100 lbs at lowes. Not bad. I will heed your advice and excellent math breakdown and get one or two. I have the style back bumper that has the step up on the sides it's not flat across so I am going to check with my neighbor about welding something up for me. Can I use just 1 for now? That may fit on bumper 2 def not.

Re:LP Help!! (LuckyDog)

a trick I have used in the past and will use again is to take a couple of them disposable hand warmers and put them on your regulator wrap with a rag and ducktape. this will keep your regulator from icing up. keep your full tanks warm the best you can to prevent regulator from icing. A quick fast fix pour hot water on regulator wrap with a rag this works too.
Re:LP Help!! (edwmax)

Look at my above post for tank size recommendations. Also, this link will help to explain. http://www.generatorjoe.net/html/PropaneNGUse.html ... The top and bottom charts are the ones for your situation and will show the delivery capacity of each size tank.

Ladycopa

.... I wish I knew more about how one won't work the one burner she prob going to be using at any given time? I live in a mobile home and have 100 lb tank running my stove in house. I know when temp dipps at night sometimes gas won't work. Could you help me understand why a bit better. I see trucks all over up here with like two 30 or 40s I've seen guys running stove like mine with 20s.

This is my point about using residential range on the truck. The burners are smaller (less BTUs). ... The question really comes down to "how fast do you need to boil water?" Both the residential & commercial ranges will cook. The residential range may be a little slower, but it should be more economical to operate and will work from a smaller lp tank. .... The commercial range also has a disadvantage of back & side clearance space requirements for fire hazard.

Ladycopa
... We are serving her native Brazilian food I probably won't need more than two of the burners yes but the oven was the key.

2 burners on the American (2 x 32000) 64000 BTU & the oven is 28000 Btu ... for a total of 92000 BTU of gas at 100% each. If these are at 50% or less then more burners can be on.

I just looked at a Frigidaire - Gallery 30" Self-Cleaning Freestanding Gas Convection Range - Stainless-Steel, looks like it's total BTU (100% on) is less than 60,000 BTU ...???... I can't say what your cooking needs are for YOUR truck, but this gas range should work on a 100 lb tank (down to 30 / 40 deg F) and there be gas capacity for the hot water heater.
Re:LP Help!! (edwmax)

During cold weather, you may need to warp the tanks with heat blankets to make the tanks produce a steady supply of gas vapor. ... When you see frost on the tank or gas line, it is a clue gas vapor is being used faster than the tank can produce it.

What many people do not understand or realize is the LP tank is a boiler just like a steam/water boiler. The heat source is the ambulant air temperature. Therefore, the size of tank maters and tanks can only produce gas vapor at a certain rate. Google 'generator joe' and look at the lp tanks charts.

The 4th gas guy that showed up to work on your system, did not know what he was doing. He should have been able understand the problem on seeing the size of tank connected without any testing. He was ($15/hour) helper that just knew how to connect lines and light pilot lights and did not know gas systems. ... not worth the $225 he charged you. ... The first 3 guys that didn't show up, 'might' have known enough that they didn't want to get involved.

Since you are handing out $$$, send me $150 for the free work. ... hahaha ... I didn't even have to see the system to know what the problem was. A 30lb tank wont work.
Re:LP Help!! Like I said only got stove that big because she wanted the oven even if I use one burner the oven is the main thing. Besides rice beans and empanada type things we will be serving the Brazilian steak and cheese and the Brazilian hot dog sandwiches. My wife's family owned a bakery in Brazil hence the desserts. (BpCBlake)

yea, I didnt realise the gas needed to run even a small food truck. how many devices you have, line size and supply size. just for a regular size grill you would need a huge supply tank to get full power.
"capt, the engines don have enoght power for full speed. "

Re:LP Help!! (edwmax)

  At 60 deg F, a 100 lb tank can supply abt 79,100 BTU @ 25% full; ... 20 Deg F, abt 43,300 BTU.

At 60 Deg F, a 400 lb tank can supply abt 185,500 BTU @ 25 % full; ...20 Deg F, abt 100,700 BTU.

So, a 100 lb tank will supply a little more than half of the gas (BTU) required for the 155,000 BTU range.

While most truck setups have 100 lb tanks, we still do not know the size of tank is connected on this truck. The OP has not stated that info.
Re:LP Help!! (BpCBlake)

I think most food truck propane tanks are like 100 lb or something. you would not run this on what a cart would use.
Re:LP Help!! (edwmax)

Because of the volume of gas & heat output. But there again we don't know the OP's menu & food output volume. ... Also, the range could be ran at less than max. heat output (50% on burners or oven ...???) ... I'm just questioning the need for such high heat out put.

Another, point for the mobile truck setup is that commercial type ranges have very little (or no ) insulation around the oven when compared to a residential range. So a commercial range will heat the truck kitchen work area more while the residential range may provide the same heat temps with less gas usage and less work area heating. ... The above American range requires 12" clearance (see small print in product info) to combustible walls, cabinets, or materials while a residential range has 0" clearance requirement. This space is not usually available in a truck & trailer setup.

Re:LP Help!! (edwmax)

Your PM still have not give vitally required info to help with this problem. What is the LP tank size and line size from the tank to the range.

You did indicate the range is an American Range 24" at 155,000 BTU. The product sheet can be down loaded from here. http://www.katom.com/pdfspecs/386-AR4LP.pdf

This range needs 10" W.C. pressure (abt .4 psi) and to be plumbed with 3/4 in pipe. One regulator at the tank will work if no other appliance needs a higher gas pressure. ... Now tank size for this range: one <strike>420</strike> 400 lb tank or two 100 lb tanks. ... a 30 lb tank can barely run a single burner at its rated BTU output. A 20 lb tank can not. ... Basically, I think this range is way 'over kill' for a truck. ... So, what size is your tank?
Re:LP Help!! (Ladycopa)

  Hi
I have a problem with hooking up the LP on my food truck. This part of the build has been a complete disaster so far. I'm on my fourth gas guy(first to show and do work the rest never showed/called) and when he went to hook up today nothing happened and I just got a blank stare and a $225 bill. I have hard pipe 90 out of back of my stove the the regulator then I have a T for it to split. One way for oven one way for water heater. The guy thinks its the part you screw on the tank?? He hooks tester to part on stove. When he opens the tank he gets a reading in the 10wc range but when he opens the stove knob it drops to like .6 and doesn't come back up? Can anyone help??
Thanks,
Chris
