Love2bake- We were back there for about 2 weeks. It was good food after good food. The food trip of a lifetime. I will sneak in some baked goods soon ;-).

Holy mackerel!!! What a great report! This came in during the time I was avoiding trip reports (I was dieting.), so I completely missed it.

That Shake Shack burger looks outrageous. We have a $17 burger out here that I have a weakness for: it's basically a Reuben sandwich on a burger, and it comes with great fries. I don't do that often, but I 'd definitely try that burger you had.

What fun you had! I'd love to see a Nats game. And get Ben's Chili Bowl food. Awesome.

Maybe I missed it, but how many days were you on this trip?

I'll attempt to convince you to try a few more baked items in the future, though... I can't help it.

Gotta chime in again to thank you and "second" your opinion that Camden Yards is truly a wonder. It is HOK's masterpiece; setting the field well below street level was genius!

I remember when it was being built wondering why the hell they were digging this huge hole. When I first walked into the completed park I thought I had entered baseball Heaven!

Chap's wasn't as good on my second visit as it was on my first, a few years ago (pre-DD&Ds!). My only visit to Dinic's was also prior to their being named the top sandwich in America, and I liked what I had there, too.

Next time you are in Baltimore, you might want to give Pioneer Pit Beef a try. I can't say that this is my best picture, but should give you a decent enough idea....

Way to come out of the box strong! Beautiful photos and excellent choices of where to eat. I was also not impressed by Dinic's and Chap's Pit Beef. Did not see any mention of Tony Luke's, which would have fit in right in with the rest of the sandwiches.

Love, love, lovin' this!! I can't decide what I want to eat right through the screen. All of it looks amazing! You hit up some of my favorites in NYC. Hoping Totonno's will re-open next month. I knew that triple decker was from Harold's before I even saw the text below. I'd know one of their sandwiches at a glance! Hope to make it to the White House one day!

@joerogo, I think the $17.50 price tag is for a (double) SmokeShack burger, cheese fries and a large root beer. If it was the burger alone I think they'd have a hard time pushing it!

@Joerogo- Hawley isnt a food persons paradise....I would probably recommend Joe and Lorenzos for a pizza on Main St. Mikes pizza out route 590 used to be alright..havent been in years though.

Maybe try out The Settlers Inn. I havent been there to eat in years...its probably been turned over many times since Ive been in there. My grandparents used to own the place though. My grandma and grandpa would do all the cooking and my mom and 2 aunts would clean/run the place etc. This was back in the 60s. Its more upscale from what their website looks like but its definitely a cool place to check out. We rarely ever ate out whenever I was back there. Between my grandparents, aunts/uncles etc there was always a fantastic home cooked meal.

Great post! Unfortunately, frustrating as well as there's a whole bunch of food there that a) I love, and b) I can't get good versions of in Minnesota. As usual, I just live vicariously through these posts.

I will be installing new windows at the Barker Street Apartments in Hawley in January. Maybe you can help me out with some good places near the downtown. So far I had breakfast at The Hawley Diner and was not impressed.

Everyone- Thank you for the kind replies. Glad you liked the post. I took a trip to Seattle/Alaska(cruise) in August. I will post pics of that one tonight for you guys to check out too.

I live out in San Diego right now and we have the best Mexican food in the land. Thats about it though....you guys on the East have everything else covered. I wish we could have the SD weather and the East Coast food. Life would be perfect haha. You cant find a great sandwich, pizza, hot dog etc out here...some are good/passable but far from great like back East. My whole family is from Hawley, PA (30 miles outside Scranton, 2 hours North of Philadelphia) so I have been back East a bunch. This trip itself was great. Just me and my best friend. We ate at all these places and went to 6 baseball stadiums. Besides him getting sick for those 3 days it was a perfect trip.

-@Metroplexjim-Camera was a Sony Cybershot 14MP Carl Zeiss. It takes decent enough pictures.
-@Phlmaestro- Lucky! I would weigh 500 lbs if I lived/worked anywhere near the RTM.
-@Ken8038. I would definitely recommend driving to New Haven for a weekend. Louis Lunch, and the multiple great pizza places (Im partial to Pepes) would make the trip worth it IMO.

Steve's Prince of Steaks is my Philly favorite as well.

Wow, great post! For a guy 3000 miles away, you sure did your homework and made all the classic stops. Thanks for taking the time to share it all with us.

Some comments:

I wasn't all that impressed with Joe & Pats the one time I went. On the other hand...Denino's!!

I have had DiNics at the RTM and at their other branch in Camden NJ. The Roast Pork & Rabe in Camden is still one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. On the other hand, the one I had at the RTM was just OK. It was a little dried out, which makes no sense because of the high volume at that location. The Camden location is busy, but it's very small (just a counter) and I guess more attention is paid to the product because it's mostly locals and not tourists.

Went to Chaps last year on my way back from Virginia. Also not impressed.

Opinions are mixed on Hot Dog Johnnie's, but I like the place.

Places you traveled 3000 miles for that are within 100 miles of me that I'm ashamed I've never been to:

Harold's
Louis Lunch
Patsy's
Zuppardi's
Ben's chili Bowl (well, 200 miles, but I've been so close and never got there)
