After all, they were these disgustingly greenish yellow mucous-like blobs that would slide out of the mussel shells that gulls would drop on the rocks at the beach in order to break them open. Sure, the gulls ate that stuff, but people? No way!
Re:As I reach my 1000th post (FriedClamFanatic)

Have to laugh............mussels,when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's..........covered the jetties on Cape Cod where I grew up. Like lobster in the 1800's.....noone wanted them! Nowadays, I'm sure they are picked clean! But i know where to still get some big ones that are great steamed in a little white wine and garlic!
Re:As I reach my 1000th post (mar52)

Now you've surpassed 1000 posts! It's so easy when on a roll.

Keep it up! Try a mussel... you may have to hyphenate your name.
Re:As I reach my 1000th post (FriedClamFanatic)

Lawd Gawd..........I am humbled by ppl who have posted 5 times as much as me and still are only "sirloins". Perhaps some day we will all reach "Beef Tenderloin", properly cleaned and butterflied with cooked lobster tail and asparagus in the center!

and my thanks to all of you once again
Re:As I reach my 1000th post (ken8038)

I've been around since 2004 (according to my profile, I don't really remember) and I've often wondered what was my first post. Probably something idiotic, like most of my other 1404 posts.
