GuS is very refreshing soda (to drink) and the subtle sweetness works well with ice cream.

Only a dusting of snow. It will be 55 in a few days!

A Boston Cooler is Vernors ginger ale + vanilla ice cream.

When Vernor's is not available a less potent ginger ale can be accentuated with Canton ginger liqueur....for a Boston Canton Cooler

I've seen the addition of vanilla vodka <<<shudder>>> but never Canton. It would be a winner.

I'd stick with the top recipe. I love Vernors and I may make myself a Boston Cooler tonight!

Put the Vernors in first and it will not foam up nearly as much as when added after the Ice Cream and wont go as flat...Russ

I'm in the mood for a Boston Cooler...but it's very cold and I'm freezing.

If you don't want to buy marshmallow vodka...both Monin & Torani make a toasted marshmallow syrup...to handle the task.

Toasted marshmallow milkshakes are very popular...but vodka would be a nightmare because they include either sour cream or yogurt.

Wow--I apparently lead a very sheltered life! Had no idea a whipped cream vodka or marshmallow vodka even existed. Now I want to try that "root beer float" and hopefully something made with the marshmallow one, too. Mmmmmm.... Thank for posting, everyone!

According to Drinksmixer.com, A Black Cow is:

2 scoops vanilla ice cream
10 oz root beer
1 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 1/2 oz whipped cream
maraschino cherries

Pour root beer over ice cream and chocolate syrup in a large tumbler glass. Garnish with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw and a long spoon.

Vodka? I can't see how any kind of vodka is needed in or would improve a good old-fashioned rootbeer float (rootbeer and vanilla ice cream).

Around here, the far semi rural fringe of Chicago, in the 1960's, we called this drink (without alcohol) a black cow. That't what I have always know a root beer float to be. In the mid 1980's I was on a camping/rafting trip to Tennessee and we stopped at a local non chain ice cream stand and I asked to have a black cow. The teenaged worker stared at me for a while and finally said "you want to buy a cow?" We figured it out eventually.

As far as flavored booze goes, we have a pretty huge liqour store nearby and I was on my way to buy my plain old regular scotch and passed all kinds of crazy flavored rums and vodkas on the shelves. Most of them are way too sweet for me to consider. I will, now and then, drink vodka with lemon juice but I'm controlling the amount of lemon.

The only sweet drinks I now like are a margarita, a mojito or a lemon drop.

Those root beer floats are killer.

There are several flavored vodkas now available. Citron Vodka for lemon drops and pepper vodka for Bloody Marys for instance.

I just remembered that the root beer float I had in Willits, California was called a Black Cow. I think that if they'd listed it as a root beer float I wouldn't have tried it. But that's what it was.

Pinnacle Brand makes both whipped cream & marshmallow flavors.

Smirnoff makes at least one of the flavors.

BTW,,,,,,,,,,,what is whipped cream Vodka?.a brand? I seldom search out or look at "flavored" spirits other than things like Grand Marnier.

And Mar....you are far from the first to get caught by sweet drinks! Some sand dune on Cape Cod has the second round of one night of too many Rum & Cokes when I was in college.
