Simpson, Hillary Clinton, Jonas Salk, Barack&amp;nbsp;Obama,&amp;nbsp;etc&lt;/i&gt;. &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  It never ceases to amaze me that &lt;b&gt;Babe Ruth &lt;/b&gt;is &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;always&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; among the top three - even among females and immigrants! &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  Few know who Mick Jagger is or what he did/does.&amp;nbsp; Maybe 1 out of 50 has ever heard of Jonas Salk.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  </description><link>http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/fb.ashx?m=726772</link><pubDate>Sun, 20 Jan 2013 19:07:38 GMT</pubDate></item><item><title>Re:Modern Medicine and Sports: Citius, Altius, Fortius (chewingthefat)</title><description>  Ruth had a very strict training regimine, Hot Dogs, Beer, Women, lots of all, in no paticular order!&lt;img src="http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/upfiles/smiley/thumbup1.gif" alt="" /&gt; &lt;br&gt;  </description><link>http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/fb.ashx?m=726721</link><pubDate>Sun, 20 Jan 2013 12:58:35 GMT</pubDate></item><item><title>Modern Medicine and Sports: Citius, Altius, Fortius (MetroplexJim)</title><description>  &lt;i&gt;Citius, Altius, Fortius&lt;/i&gt; ... is the motto of the Olympic&lt;font size="1"&gt;&lt;sup&gt;TM&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;/font&gt; Games: faster, higher, stronger. &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  We humans differ from the animal due to our opposable thumbs, self-awareness, and capacity to reason in the abstract.&amp;nbsp; Using these capacities we, as a race, have developed&amp;nbsp;a myriad of&amp;nbsp;ways to improve ourselves through modern medicine, broadly defined. &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  Athletes&amp;nbsp;today routinely &lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;buy&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt; "&lt;i&gt;Ted Williams' 20/10 eyes&lt;/i&gt;" for five grand!&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  In addition to truly miraculous 'minimally invasive' orthopedic procedures (&lt;i&gt;e.g., Adrian Peterson&lt;/i&gt;), elite athletes all have trainers, sports psychologists, nutritionists, 21&lt;sup&gt;st.&lt;/sup&gt; Century equipment,&amp;nbsp;etc.&amp;nbsp; Psychotropic pharmaceutics "legally" treat depression, ADHD, and a range of anxiety disorders.&amp;nbsp; Even those who have unfortunate personal issues (&lt;i&gt;e.g., Josh Hamilton&lt;/i&gt;) even get a "body man" to keep them straight.&amp;nbsp; Training at high altitude is legal "blood doping", etc. &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  Yes, the non-prescription use of anabolic steroids&amp;nbsp;is 'against the law' - and so is the possession and use of cannabis.&amp;nbsp; But, when Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens (&lt;i&gt;et al&lt;/i&gt;.) were playing it was &lt;i&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;not&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt; against the Rules of MLB.&amp;nbsp; Even were I to concede to the 'politically correct':&amp;nbsp; if the pre-steroid Bonds and Clemens are not HOF's,&amp;nbsp;then that honor has no meaning. &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  I will say it simply:&amp;nbsp; after LASIK&lt;font size="1"&gt;&lt;sup&gt;TM&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;/font&gt;, Barry Bonds put the sweet spot on the ball better than any other baseball player I have ever seen.&amp;nbsp; He broke the one record that had truly had been seen as unbreakable:&amp;nbsp; Ruth's single season slugging average of .847.&amp;nbsp; He set a record that will NEVER be broken:&amp;nbsp; 120 &lt;u&gt;intentional&lt;/u&gt; walks in 2004.&amp;nbsp; Never was a batter so feared.&amp;nbsp; On balance I believe that was due more to his "buying Ted Williams' eyes" more than "the clear". &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  &lt;b&gt;Bottom line:&amp;nbsp; how is LASIK&lt;font size="1"&gt;&lt;sup&gt;TM&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&amp;nbsp;so different from "the clear" (&lt;i&gt;which I, at 65 by R&lt;sub&gt;x&lt;/sub&gt;,&amp;nbsp;apply to myself after showering&lt;/i&gt;) and which&amp;nbsp;MLB&amp;nbsp;did not at that time&amp;nbsp;forbid to Bonds and Clemens?&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br&gt;  &amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;  Can&amp;nbsp;anyone imagine what &lt;b&gt;Babe Ruth&lt;/b&gt; could have achieved with an agent/manager, trainers, sports psychologists, nutritionists, the present medical arts,&amp;nbsp;fitness equipment, &lt;i&gt;etc&lt;/i&gt;.?&amp;nbsp; There is absolutely no doubt that he was the "&lt;i&gt;best that ever was and the best that ever will be&lt;/i&gt;". &lt;br&gt;  </description><link>http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/fb.ashx?m=726672</link><pubDate>Sat, 19 Jan 2013 20:50:31 GMT</pubDate></item></channel></rss>
