In a No Smoking venue, does it bother (craving-wise) cigarette smokers to see them being used?

It depends on the smoker. They've never caused me to crave a smoke, at least no moreso than having finished a meal normally did.

I have three people in my office that use them at their desks. I have never smelled them. Seems like a great way to quit. Some people will have a problem with them just because they have a problem with anything....Russ

Good Lord! I'd forgotten about those. Every now and then I'd slip one in my parents' smokes. The first few times they thought it was funny.

My Son is going to hook me up next week or so with the E cigs! Initial cost is about $60.00 for the system I want but I think it will be WELL worth it!

Sharon has been using them for about 2 years. As far as I (the non-smoker) is concerned they are wonderful.

They are healthier because there is no tar and everything in the house doesn't smell of cigarettes anymore.

There is a scent to the vapor which changes with her choice of "drops".

There are some I don't like but I only smell it when I'm close to the vapor like when we're driving somewhere. It dissipates quickly.

She "lit up" in a restaurant a few days ago and no one said anything because no one knew it.

I was a little afraid she'd be asked to stop but it did not happen.

Honestly, they are "the best thing for quitting" I've tried. Ever.

I got mine at Sam's Club for about $14. It's a rechargable model that attaches to a USB plug, simple as pie. The nicotine refills are cheap, about $8/ per carton equivalent.

Yeah, that was poorly worded on my part about the second hand effects, wasn't it? In any case, I'm not in favor of banning them. I dislike having the government telling a person how to run their private business enterprise. Even though I quit cigarettes 16 years ago and cannot stand the smoke now, I don't like the smoking bans either. If a business chooses to allow it, I can go elsewhere.

Like the microscopic (in a relative sense) endeavors of mankind do not cause "Global Warming".

It depends on what the person using it chooses to put in it. You can have just water, or nicotine, or flavors...but it's not smoke, and that's the entire point.

I've been around enough people smoking them in one room, and a person in the room with too much perfume on was more of a bother than the e-cigs, which I wouldn't have been able to detect in the room with my eyes closed. The difference is that the e-cig isn't burning and releasing side-stream smoke.

As there are no 'second hand' effects (the 'effluent' is in fact water vapor), e-cigarettes should be allowed everywhere.

But that will never happen due to the total hysterical intolerance of the militant, 'busy-body' anti-smoking vigilantes who are 'offended' by anything that even 'looks like' doing that evil deed.

If such individuals really cared about 'public health' they would encourage the use of e-cigs as they are a great way for those of us 'addicts' to break the habit.

I would much rather see a person using one of those e-cigs in a restaurant and/or retail than say..well those who go into such places with a half smoked cigarette dangling from their mouth, behind their ears or whatever.

The other day I was at a Walgreens. The man in front of me was "chewing" on a burnt cigarette that he had smoked earlier and if that wasn't gross enough he also had a cigar behind his ear and of course he smelt like a pack, no a carton of smokes. Long story short I had to leave to store or otherwise I would throw up right there in the store.. I would MUCH rather deal with someone using an e-cig by a long shot.

I remember a flight back in 2002, that a asian businessman was seated in my section and hit "lit up" they whole flight. Now 10 years later they have become the "new" thing.

It is a great alternative.

I think its silly for anyone to actually think its a person smoking.There is so much info about the electronic cigarette out there. Its steam, people.Its a fantastic alternative.

It always makes me do a double-take when I see someone with one, but most places I've been around here haven't banned them. But then most of them have a glowing blue end, so it's pretty obvious they aren't actually smoking.

Ever since Michigan went non-smoking in public places, some restaurants have had to completely change everything to try to bring in a new clientele because their smokers choose to stay home, while others have flourished. And then you have the places I hang out, where we all chip in to pay the minimal, token fine from the health department on the off chance they get enough complaints to be fined (it's something like ten complaints before you get a fine), and just smoke inside anyway. Luckily, our only outdoor "ban", is that you have to be ten feet from all doorways, which for the most part is pretty easy to do here.

Has anyone had any experience pro or con with restaurants banning the use of electronic cigs? There technically is no smoke, but from what I understand states such as NJ and the Airlines have taken it upon themselves to ban them. I don't believe I've seen anyone using one in a public place or any place take any action or warning someone using one. I can see how other patrons or management might be confused since some do look exactly like a regular cig. There's lots of folks that miss a smoke after a meal and recent "campus bans or free zones" are driving away those that do smoke from a lot of places that they can no longer step outside in unbounded areas to catch a smoke. No, never smoked myslef, but have a kid and spouse that does, so it's a real PITA issue choosing somewhere to go out to nowadays over this nonsense.
