I'm so glad I heard about this from love2bake's trip report. Had a great day and will go again next year. Also picked up some free Crisco over mitts and spatulas
Turns out I could not eat as much pie as I thought I could-I was so thankful for the free coffee, helped me get in a few more slices

I have the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook, but haven't made anything out of it yet. I think my first recipe will be the crack pie. I hear it is "as advertised."

The avocado pie was good! You could taste it, but in a very pleasant way. I also liked the raspberry jalapeño one. I miss the event already. Sniff sniff!

Nice video!

I see that the cinnamon bun was a pie project. There was a version of a cinnamon bun pie @ Momofuku Milk Bar in NYC...but it's not on the menu anymore. The recipe is in the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook.

It was sort of several nice components that were popular alone...but together didn't really translate to pie. It included liquid cheesecake for filling.

I see the recipes are up for the 2013 winners....including the raspberry jalapeño cream cheese pie & the avocado pie! Excellent!

I think this is the one where loves2bake acts as a judge. As much as I would love to go, Cousin Johnny and I will be on our Northern California vacation at that time.

After seeing those photos, I'll bet your planning will be a little different next year!!

Absolutely! Should I post some pics from my last two years judging at the National Pie Championships? If so, should I put that under trip reports or desserts?? I didn't take many pics at the Great American Pie Festival itself--mostly of the awards ceremony there.

YES!!! The Great American Pie Festival is held in the town of Celebration, FL, concurrently with the National Pie Championships, also in Celebration (but at a hotel and that's where I am a pie judge). The festival is more of a public event, and features the Never-Ending-Pie-Buffet, which is pretty irresistible (unless you've been judging pies all day). If anyone wants a free ticket to the buffet at the pie festival, they can volunteer at the pie championships and get into the buffet for free. :)) But you have to apply. See deets on the Web site Michael Hoffman posted, and please let me know if you're coming!!
