I can definitely see why so many places calling themselves or specific items on the menu "famous" would irk you. If everyplace is famous, then no place is actually famous. I am so used to seeing it, I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

So, out of all the restaurants reviewed on Roadfood, which one do you think is the most famous, in that the highest percentage of the general public would recognize the name and have some kind of knowledge about the place? My first thought would be Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. Maybe the Varsity in Atlanta or Carnegie Deli in New York?

I've always been aware of my World Famousosity. It's a burden I bear, but there's a certain satisfaction knowing that I earned it.

Some things just simply are world famous - Buffetbuster's love for pie, Wanderingjew's disdain for Atlantean pizza, and Travelling Man's, uh, well, being travelingmanned.

and of course, the most famous of all - MH's eternal curgmugeonliness.

I remember having some clam chowder at a place that said the chowder was world famous. Turns out it was Campbells. Sure that's world famous.

Is anyone else sick of places claiming their food/menu is "famous" or "World Famous?" Please, there are admittedly some "famous" restaurants, but to see this proclamation on every corner irks me. I have my thoughts on truly "famous" restaurants. Yours?
