okay. its a done deal. I can start anytime. I just have to get the truck ready and go. as i said a well traveled road. (but not a highway where people will be flying past me). right next to a car wash and a few hundred feet from a walmart. I see GREAT things!!! I will definetly be starting some time next week. I will let everyone know. Oh i have a question for the pros.... when winter comes, is there any precautions i have to take as far a water lines freezing or anything else for that matter??? what is normal procedure? this is my first yr owning a truck in the winter. any words of wisdom will be appreciated.

Shelly good for you and next to a WalMart great. Hit some WalMart car windshields with a flyer first time your slow it can't hurt. Now to the cold weather thing. i don't know what your unit has for water service but you need to find a local person that can take a look at your entire rig and figure out what will likely freeze and what needs to be done to prevent that from happening.Heat-tape is a wonderful thing if you have electric service. That and good insulation can save you some large cash outlays. Do your prep work ASAP before you freeze a waterline, or split a water tank and end up spending a ton for repair work. And now especially that you've found a new home you don't want to be gone from your spot while someone is working to repair your rig. Jack@DrofBBQ.com www.DrofBBQ.com

Dr. thanks for the advice. Appreciated as usual. First day today. Rainy lousy day but i decided to start today anyway. Slow but i figure people see the truck there today maybe tom. when it is nice out they will give me a try. I was VERY slow today. But i figured i would be. I really think this spot will be mint. I am right down the block from Walmart and righ next to a car wash. (it was closed today because of the weather) but i see that be a good thing having a car wash next store. I will keep everyone posted. Again, thanks for all the advice. Shelly

Good luck Shelly! Many a hot dog stand can survive from car wash traffic alone. You've got a lot more that that working for you in the location.

Didn't go out today. rainy crappy day decided to make some signs and do some prep work. I think now that Thanksgiving is up i will get a better feel for what the spot will be like. I will keep everyone posted. Sooooo happy to be back out there. Hey, how long does everyone stay out as far as winter. (those of you who have harse weather)? I was planning on staying out as long as i can.

I'm in a trailer, but still constantly outside taking care of the pit, but I'm good to go for the entire winter. In fact I keep the trailer very warm, so that when I have to go outside and load firewood or bring in meat it feels very very good to walk back inside. My electric bill gets pretty high this time of year but people still drive up so what the heck.Shelly are you able to reach a car if they drive up to your window? Jack

Shelly.. Thanks for keeping us updated.. Odd to see someone going at it this late in the season, but then again, you'll have the corner on the mobile food market right now.. I dont know if your weather has been as weird as ours, but still lacking the real winter around here... Take some pics of your setup (especially after the snow flies), and keep us updated... Think your one of the first going this late in the season around here (well, other then Doc BBQ with a frozen chicken on his roof, CowboyBob or maybe the master: CSD)..

I can't afford to stay in all winter and pay insurances since my last spot didn't really make me any money to put away. I see all the other hot dog carts still out so i decided to get out there and at least see how long i can stay out and try and build a base to come back to after the winter. We will see. I will get some pix asap.

Hi Shelly, When I had my Concession Trailer, I stayed all winter, Even in Snow. I had a captive audience. But I was always there. I wore Long John's, Jeans and Thick socks and insulated Boots. I wore a tee shirt and Flannel shirt. Had one space heater. When the propane grill was turned on it got toasty inside by lunch. I was regular with my customers and they knew I'd be there. I had a sliding window and had a sm awning for my customers. You could buy an awning from a rv supplier. If it rained they kept dry. But alas sometimes a good thing comes to end. After 2 yrs lost my spot. Sold my 2 trailers. I now am a fair weather boy (old Man 66) with a hot dog cart. I just do certain gigs. Good Luck, Cowboy Bob in PA

Cowboy i am definetly gonna try and stay out as long as i can. I don't have a steady customer base at this pt. so i worry when it gets to cold they won't bother getting out to try me. But i am in it to win it (so to speak) and i will brave it as long as i can and as long as my nerves can trailer that thing. (i am worried in bad weather.) thanks for the words. appreciate all of you.
