short notice

Local Haunted House wants me as the food vendor. As far as I know I will be the only food vendor there. Extremely short notice as they want me there Saturday night. Don't have time to do what I want to but have to throw something together. What is the best way to keep my hamburgers and hot dogs. I was thinking of just foil wrapping and keeping them in a warming cabinet. And prices! At the restaurant I have my prices set at 2.75 for a 1/4 lb burger and 1.25 for a plain hot dog with m/k. May not be able to do all my toppings this time. Such short notice don't have time to put things together like I would like to but this is an excellent oportunity to get my brand out there. It will be a festival type atmosphere so there will be other vendors(cotton candy, etc) and a fairway.

Are they charging you for the spot? If so, make sure that you are the only vendor selling hot dogs and burgers. You mentioned "at the restaurant" - do you run a cart/trailer, or are you running pre-cooked items to the event?

I would drop the burgers and do,Hot Dogs, Chili dogs, Nachos, even corn dogs. If you looking to impress the people with your food, I'm not sure a 2 or 3 hour precooked burger is going to do it.........The Chili, dogs, cheese, with hold well in Chaffers, the corn dog does better in dry heat. You could have a runner to the B&M for fresh food

Hot dog and a bag of chips for $2 is way too cheap. I would go 3.50 and add a soda for .50 more as a $4.00 combo. Most would probably go for a dog and a drink and skip the chips. You have to include all of your costs for items you might have to buy or rent like tables, your gas to get there, and your time. Then figure out your costs.

Is power available? ...if so get a roaster/warmer ($40 @ WalMart), then you can steam or have fresh hot water dogs, chili & cheese sauce. Some of these can use hotel pans, if not use the throw-a-way foil pans. ..... You could keep some pre-cooked burgers in a steam pan and sever on a fresh bun. ...I hate pre-wrapped burgers that have stuck to the bun and can't be pulled apart. OR, gas grill for burgers!

Thanks. I meant $3, I do some catering events for a local indoor skate park and I keep it simple. Hot dogs and chips for $3 and a beer brat for $4. I am lucky enough that the owners of Red Hot Chicago love having there name splattered every place they can put it. I have had a hot dog cart delivered from the city to the NW Burbs on 24 hour notice. Great family run operation.

You gotta have speciality foods at an event like that. Funnel Cakes, corn dogs.

Ran my hotdog combo, hotdog, soda and chips for $4 and my hamburger combo, same at $5, add chili for .75 cents. We did pretty good considering it was competing on the last night of a local carnival. Only made about $100 but considering we were not prepared it gave us a chance to work the kinks out. Thinking of adding bowl chili for Friday and Saturday night.

Thinking instead of making bowl chili I might add some beans to my hotdog chili. Anybody else done this or is this just taking the easy road? This is for the haunted house.

I don't know what you Chili is like, I figure its a meat topping kind of thing. If you want to make it more like a chili, add diced tomatoes, chopped onions, and Kidney beans. You really want to cook the tomatoes into the chili so they blend in and get soft, rinse the kidney beans and add to the chili at the end. If your hot dog topping is already cooked, Sautee the onions and add in with the tomatoes. You will need to adjust you seasonings, Chili powder, cumin, granulated garlic, paprika, Crushed chili flakes................The best........Bill..P.S...I just got a Chili recipe this morning from another food service Chat site, I'll PM it over to you.

Are you adding the beans to extend the chili?? ... if so I suggest pureeing or rough chop the beans, then mix with the chili meat sauce. Many times when I order a chili dog, I will request chili soup if available rather than the pureed Castleberry's (no meat) chili sauce.

my chili is more of a meat topping but I was hoping to be able to use the chili for two products without having to take up more room. thinking have the chili on the steam table and just adding beans to it. Getting good feedback on it. Will try it friday night.

Now I understand and that can work. A chili con-carne and chili beans for those that want beans added to a bowl of chili. I just do not like fake chili sauce, ie, castleberry bean sauce or the like, on my Hot dog. And, I don't like those sauces that you can't see the difference.
