Snoot HECK!!!

That was the whole FACE.

There is something about eating something that is staring back at you.

I made that misteak once, while doing a P-I-G hawg roast, we roasted the the whole hog and thot it would be more presentable to serve it like you see the pictures "pig laying there with apple in his mouth"

Should have seen that there were LOTS of women and children present, and just chopped or shredded it before we served it.

The horror came when the little ones were screaming we killed mrs piggy, the women folk were not happy with us. needless to say they were not repeat customers...

CajunKing-- Been there, Done That !!! Church Sunday picnic. While the two hogs were finishing in the Smoker many of the kids circled around to watch for the opening of the smoker and the removal of the hogs.... The shoulda stayed with Mom !! Kids screaming and wanting to go home... Many wouldn't touch the pulled pork when it was served inside with all the 'sides'. Sheesch.

Not many places sell the smiley faced sheep and hogs (and ducks and calves too) I love to visit Jungle Jims just to catch up on my memories of "Parts is Parts" appearances.

Jungle Jims is a wonderful place

I take friends there when the come to town for a visit, my brother in law lived a sheltered life in Boston, meat came from the store. After visiting JJ I think he had nitemares

He still doesn't know what to think about his brother in law, i smoked some pork butts the last time they were in, he would not eat the poke until my sister convinced him that pork butts were not actual butts. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the ham we ate sunday morning on the other hand was.

      ahhhh city folk

Mr Mayor, you are a TOTAL goof.

You're going to scare the small children to death. And they'll love you for it (SOME will anyway).

                Email will be forthcoming.

Around here you can buy whole pig heads for tamale making,I think mainly in the fall.Never head of brain sandwiches, but i recall my dad saying grandma would make brains for grandpa sometimes. He was a butcher,so brought a lot of good meat home.
They are a lot of work. My mom would eat sweetbreads my dad would cook. But i never ate any.Was years before I would eat Liver with bacon and onion.
They don't have any Jungle jims around here.there is a Culebra Meat Market No.5 on Nacodoches Road here that also sell tamales.Bet they have lots of smily pigs and cow heads(for Barbacoa),pig tails, etc.
Most barbacoa around here is cow cheek meat, and depending on the place you buy it from, you might even find an eyeball in it.Yuuuuck! Chipolte's has good barbacoa,as does one of the local joints around here.

Haha, poor little kids.never seen a real piggy before, now deader than a door knob.
Well they will get over it.

When we get our pigs processed we get the snouts packeged for the DOGS. I'll eat brains, guts, testicles and cheeks but eyes, ears and snouts go to the dogs.

HAHA,I get the pun since Culebra in Spanish means snake. I don't think they do,but anything is possible. The HEB Store when it first opend in Schertz carried all sorts of gourmet meats including rattlesnake. But at the time there really wasn't the market for exotic meats so they dropped that
and some of their other gourmet items.

You say potato and I say? I see people using the words snoot and snout interchangeably. At first I thought it was a misspelling and now I am not so sure.

Pigs have snouts, I am from Iowa and I know that for a fact. Am I correct in guessing that when pig snouts are used to make sandwiches that they are sometimes called snoots?

Yeah, for purposes of the sandwiches...and this thread the terms are interchangeable.

I will be in St. Louis again 6 weeks. Where do you recommend for snoots?

After learning of them on the PBS special "Sandwiches That You Will Like," I visited the featured restaurant on my next visit: C & K Barbecue.

I had high hopes for C & K. A small, takeout only BBQ operating out of a former gas station, they have had a lot of good press. Their snoots & ribs combination was once rated one of the 10 Best Sandwiches in America by some magazine. They also offer ears or tripe.

All of their offerings (snoots, chicken, ribs, etc) are served in a to go box with two slices of bread and a serving of potato salad. By the time you eat it, the sauce, bread and salad are all mixed together.

The snoots were crispy. I don't regret trying them, but I wouldn't get them again. Actually the BBQ in general was disappointing. I also tried their chicken, which was about like the rotisserie BBC chickens some supermarkets sell.

                              Keith

PS: I was very happy with one of the other St. Louis areas special sandwiches from the show: the St. Paul sandwich (egg foo yung on Wonder Bread, with lettuce, tomato and mayo) served at Chinese restaurants around the city. The third area specialty on from the show (brains) is no longer available thanks to Mad Cow disease.

I hate to go off topic, but this is classic. We were in Talkeetna AK the other day (you can tell it's boring up here) and we saw this old Cadillac and I said, "That's Blanche! Ort. must be here!" Of course it was not him, but glad he's at the Library posting again.

Getting back to the beging of this thread... at a party on Sunday, someone told me there is a place that serves snoots in Kansas City in the bottoms. They didn't know the name, and said it is small.

Blame it on my recently-purchased Dodge mini-van, whom I've dubbed Van Ella Fitzgerald. I can only hope that she keeps running as long as that wonderful lady did, or something akin to it.
