Definitely hard hand scooped. Soft serve has always seemed to me more like pudding than ice cream. Give me some ice cream that I can chew!!

I love soft serve when it is real ice cream. It was how the stuff was made in the hand crank days, just make it hard enough to enjoy. Soft serve lends itself perfectly with the waxy chocolate dip.

When I have hard serve ( there are four containers in the freezer), I let it soften up till it becomes soft and creamy.
I like a hot fudge sundae with hard serve as it doesn't melt as fast and is a sturdy base, that when you do get to the end, it is a creamy melange of chocolate and cream.

How many of you have taken a bowl of hard ice cream and mushed it with a spoon till it was nice and creamy smooth? I know I have. Truth is I like both kinds.

I like soft-scooped, the best of both worlds...which you can find at any genuine frozen custard shop that uses one of those "extrusion" type machines, where the custard flows out in ribbons. In my area (Southern Calif) there is only one such shop, a place called Silky Smooth www.silkysmoothcreamery.com. Soft scooped has a texture that is even smoother than soft serve, but as rich and satisfying as full-fat Haagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry's.

Real hard serve but like doggydaddy says, left to soften a bit...seems to have more flavor when not ice cold(like beer,also).. I've been known to pop too hard ice cream in the micowave for a few seconds to soften it up a bit!!!!

I like the texture of soft serve, but all the fun flavors are hard scooped.

    So I go hard scooped.

soft serve twist ice-cream (not custard!) is always a craving for me - mostly because you can't get it our side of the Northeast. Byrne Dairy soft serve ice cream is my favorite.

When it come to hard ice-cream, I don't want a lot of crap in it, just flavorful ice cream. No candy, no nuts, no pretzels, no cookies and no cookie dough. But fruit is ok!

Fall means apple and pumpkin ice creams. Can not wait!

As a consumer, I like hard, hand scooped.

In the business sense, scooping hard ice cream feels like torture.

Anything you do to soften it, just makes it more difficult to scoop the next time around. It works nicely for a consumer, but not if you are considering going into the ice cream business.

I find myself craving plain soft serve when I want ice cream! But with the amount of flavours around in ice cream these days its kinda hard to choose anything!

The better ice creams are not soft serve but as a senior citizen, I prefer soft serve.

Soft serve for a cone. Hard packed for a hot fudge sundae.

I like it just the opposite I love Dairy Queen hot fudge sundaes, but I love the flavors and creaminess of hard served.
