sources of good hotdogs at a good price

Well, Costco has let me down again. Been getting the Hebrew nationals there forever. We get a case with 4 pkgs in them. Each package has 8 hotdogs (regular size). They have stopped carrying them. They down carry ball park (will not buy), Nathans and Hebrew national quarter pounders (this is what I bought over the weekend). Any place around DC where I can score some dogs for the family for a good price. I don't want to pay $4 or $5 per pound for dogs.

now that I've been thinking about this, Do you know who produces the dogs for folks like Pink's (I like the Jalepeno dog) and for Ben's half smoke?

Heb Nat is a division of ConAgra. According to my wholesale butcher, who should know, they built a big plant somewhere near Chicago, and the damn thing doesn't work well. There are shortages of Hebrew National. Try Empire National, if you can, which I prefer.

CSD, Are these the same ones that are prepared on the roller grills and served in the food courts? If so, I would take a pass. The regular Vienna Beef dogs served at Chicago hot dog joints and stands like yours are much better.

John, I've never purchased any retail Vienna Beef hot dogs sold at Target. Target's packaging is different from the retail Vienna Beef hot dogs sold in the Chicagoland food stores. My guess is the retail pack Vienna Beef Target dogs are formulated specifically for Target. I'd have to buy a pack and boil them to find the answer. CSD
