square readers ?

Anyone doing square having trouble with the readers going out? i've gone thru 3 in the month.. they replace them free of charge and now i keep 3 on hand just in case but i didn't know if it was in my batch of readers or what.. i've been thinking it may be in one of the customers cards i've been taken , when i swipe it it seems to pull a little harder than normal, it still will go thru but seems after that one, it then stops working but i need to look further into it before i tell this customer.

I've not had any problems. I've only had one reader die, and it was the one I left in my cart over the winter so I'm assuming it got some type of water damage from condensation or something.

For what its worth, if you're ever in a bind and need a replacement square reader -right now- and don't have time for them to ship you a free one, I discovered recently that the Apple store sells them for $10. Worth it if you're in a pinch.

As far as a customer card damaging them, have you asked square to examine one of your damaged readers? They should be able to tell you if it died from brute force of a card going through badly. Also, the next time the customer in question comes in, examine their card for any noticeable damage to see if you can figure out the cause.

yea I know about the apple store thing, I had to go to orlando and I picked up 2 which when you by them for 10 bucks theirs a card in there for the 10 bucks back, but when I entered the rebate # in it would only take 1 number so I called square (actually e-mailed them I've never seen a tele # for them anywhere) and they entered the 2nd one in manually and I got the 20 bucks back thats when I asked them to ship me 3 more, they did and I have them foe spares now. I did ask the guy at the apple store about the card but he didn't really know what would cause this either.
