Any other ideas for food in Nashville. I'm there now and don't believe I can take another meal at the Cracker barrel.
Opreyland area has nothing that I've been able to find.
    Please Help!

It would be a crime to be in Nashville with your tastebuds and waste any time at Cracker Barrel.

Check out the following, reviewed here:

      Rotier's for burgers
Elliston Place Soda Shop for meat & three and breakfast
      Loveless Cafe: chicken and ham
      Belle Meade Buffet
AND, as Dug noted, the incomparable Sylvan Park

I just ate at Sylvan Park for the first time just a few weeks ago and unfortunately, our experience was not as good. I'm sure that the main reason was that we arrived at 7:15PM on a Saturday and they close at 8:00. But they were out of most of the things I wanted to try and the dessert choices were down to just chess pie. And the servers, while pleasant, looked extremely tired. I can tell you that the food we had was fine, but we felt very rushed. When I am in Nashville for the Roadfood tour, I am going to try again and I expect a much better experience. And I will also know to show up much earlier!

Sylvan (like most Nashville meat & three's) is best at lunch on a weekday. On pretty much any occasion at SP, it's best to put your pie order in when you order the rest of your meal, as they do tend to go quickly. My favorite is their chocolate pie. Incredible meringue!

i make it a point to revisit this fabulous lttle cafe whenever i am in nashville tn..
i beleive there are now three"sylvan park"restaurants in nashville.i have only been to the murphy rd. location.....and loved it!
after a phone call i learned that sadly former owner,mr.chandler passed away abour four years ago and now the sylvan park in in the capapble hands of his long time best freind eleanor clay.
i would eat there every day if i could!
i want a piece of chocolate pie right now!

Don't bother with the Sylvan Park on south 8th(Franklin rd.) Foodwise, it has nothing in common with the original on Murphy. If the third one is on Nolansville, it closed some time ago. I think it's now another Mexican joint.

Agreed. Only the one on Murphy Road is worth your time...

For lunch today, I finally made it back to Sylvan Park (the original Murphy Road location) and now I understand what the fuss is about.  Earlier in this thread, I had mentioned that my previous experience here was a disappointment.

Had the fried chicken (dark meat) and between me and my dining companions, we sampled eight different vegetables.  Everything was very good, with some of the vegetables (turnip greens, baked squash) being outstanding.  For dessert, a slice each of chocolate meringue pie and chess pie. Photos and full report to follow.

Sylvan Park is one of the few restaurants around that does a really good job with their corn bread muffins.  If you appreciate good savory cornbread, do not make the mistake of taking a biscuit or roll instead.  Get the cornbread at SP and ask for your pie up front.

Sylvan is ok and really like the pie - I've done them a few times for dinner - will try to get there at lunchtime.

I'm a big fan of Arnold's for lunch - great daily specials and sides.  They also offer both fried and baked cornbread.

When I have time, I head south to Betty's Home Cooking on the way to Franklin.  Outstanding fried chicken, home baked dinner rolls, excellent sides and cobbler so good you consider skipping the chicken, passing go and heading straight to dessert.
