I think you mean "throwed rolls". It is Lambert's. There are 2 locations. See:

Everyone should experience that place once, and only once.

        Original in Sikeston.

One just south of Springfield on 65.

My hunch is that this place has turned into a giant tourist trap, though I have never been. I have driven by the one in Sikeston and decided not to go in.
Seafarer seems to think it's a farce. Anyone else that's been there care to offer an opinion.

Carl Reitz, I have been there myself (at least the Sikeston location), and I found it enjoyable. Ten years ago I remember signage for it on billboards along I-70 outside St. Louis!

I am not a real fan of the 'Artsey-Fartsey' entertainment centered dining. I don't care much for the Benihana concept of tossing the food around in front of the customers as it is prepared, or the dancing/aggressive servers who get in your face for the 'fun' of it. Lambert's kind of fits that catagory in my book, but I haven't been there so I can't knock it....yet.

Can't vouch for the ones in MO, but the Lambert's in Foley, AL is pretty good. It reminds you of a larger Cracker Barrel, but the food is so much better. They have huge portions and a wide, varied menu. They also throw the rolls (and people boo you if you drop them) and there was no other "entertainment" to distract you. They brought around samples of many of the side dishes while you were eating. Sweet tea was excellent. No room for dessert. To me it's a good road food place.

I've been to the Sikeston, MO and Foley, AL locations. They do serve good food, and regardless of what you order, they bring around pots of the various menu items for you to sample or refill. I especially like their southern country food like black eyed peas, greens, and the like. And the "throwed rolls" taste good, too.

Not a place for regular dining, but on rare occasions it is a nice diversion. There were long lines on both of my visits, but the line moves fast.

I agree with seafarer, once is enough. A perfect example of way to large portions. Train circulating the periphery of the restaurant and stars on 45 country soundtrack ensure a high seat turnover. And people line up for this.

No offense to Mr. Mayor, but anyone who has experienced Lambert's and considers it "Artsey-Fartsey" must be from way outside of Bug Tussle. I kinda enjoyed the throwed rolls routine, but I have pretty good hands. I also liked the extras (fried okra especially) served up by high school kids just making a buck. Those who claim once is enough might be right as I have driven past Sikeston many times but never returned. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again though, if the time were right.

The Sundancer cannot comment on the restaurant but I have seen them advertised around the Mobile Alabama area and my perception was that people pick up your rolls and throw them at you. Perhaps I have it wrong but it seemed sort of nasty to me and I think that was the reason I did not patronize while I was in Point Clear, Alabama.

I am sure that my food gets handled in other restaurants but I don't see it. I think if I saw it, I would not ingest.

Paul, it's not like that at all. A waiter comes from the kitchen with a hot rack of fresh rolls, and with gloved hands goes around the dining area and tosses the fresh rolls to customers. Only air and your hands touch them before you eat. And "artsy-fartsy" is far, far from Lambert's atmosphere as gator said above.

Oneiron: Thanks for clearing that up for me. Perception can often steer you in the wrong direction and I definately had the wrong one. I am not sure that I will be in the Foley area anytime soon however I will add them back to my list. They were definately off before you explained.

OK Guys, I accept the criticism...I had a vision (remember I haven't been there) of one of the "rude waiter's, Dancing food-server" kind of tourist traps. We will give it a shot shortly and come back with an honest review.

I have been to the original Lambert's twice--the last time being 3-4 years ago. I thought the food was good and enjoyed the family style offerings passed around. The throwed roll trick was kinda cute and indeed, the waiter was gloved. We happened by during off times and it wasn't too crowded. I don't think we would have waited in a long line to get in but if we are in the area again, and we could get in-we will. Had a good laugh about the music being played inside. It's all really fast paced country/bluegrass. Eat to the beat!!!!!
