Northeasterners: all ready for the latest STORMPOCALYPSE?

I'm in central Connecticut and the NWS is predicting 18-24 inches for us on top of a sheet of wonderful ice.  Needless to say, everyone's working from home tomorrow.  I plan to go home tonight and not set foot outside until Monday morning.

I have 3 Quorn patties, a bag of Quorn tenders, 3 Oroweat sandwich thins, a box of Barilla elbow mac, a jar of Classico sauce, a carton of Silk soymilk, a bottle of Jack Daniels, a 2-liter of Diet Coke, half a Tombstone pizza, some baked Utz tortilla chips, some Chi-Chi's salsa, and a few Empire apples.  No soup though.

The Frankenstormopcalypsezilla is supposed to miss us, which is a good thing, because we have a storm coming in tomorrow from the midwest that's supposed to dump at least 8" on us. I guess we shall see when we shall see.

Here in Northern Illinois it's been a steady rain all day with temperature around 35. Some white stuff starting to mix in now.

Stolen from a friend: While I understand that it's going to be a tough weekend in Boston and NYC, I still think its quaint when the East Coasters have names for their storms like NEMO, and we just call it winter.

We got about 10-11 inches of snow yesterday on top of the 5-6 we already had. Schools were closed today, but most people are going on about their business.

I hate it with a mad passion, but it doesn't stop me from living my life. The county put an extra 60 plows on the road early this morning, which means my road just got done! I'm way excited...that usually takes at least 48 hours.

Actually it was the weather channel that decided to name them. Kind of silly I think. Whatever it's name is it's coming down pretty hard here. My daughter shoveled the walk an hour ago and it looks like nothing was done! My husband works night shift tonight so I'm not too happy about that!

The status at Logan Airport in Boston is:  NO DELAYS.  Of course there are no delays.  There are NO FLIGHTS!!!  Sheesh.  One day in Alaska we got 36 inches of snow.  The airport never skipped a beat and we all went to work and school the next day.

In 2010 we had some snow that kept us for a day or two. After that, I decided to be ready for the next one and bought a snowblower...A BIG snowblower (for this area)  13 hp 32 inch cut, pwr steering and heated grips.  Got a decent deal on it...and it has worked miracles on our winter life...
Since buying the machine, we tested it once the first winter on a 4" snowfall that would have melted off in less than 24 hours, and since that time, 2.5 winters ago, We have had no snowfalls over an inch or two.
Anyone want to bet what will happen with the weather if I sell the damn snowblower??

I saw where Rhode Island got hammered pretty bad and it made me think of WJ.  It was indicated that 25% of the state was without power.  I know that Conn, Mass and Maine got it pretty bad also.

Al:  The same thing happened to me.  I bought a Honda with tracs about 10-11 years ago because of a 20 inch snow and we have had very little since then.

I'm one of the lucky ones with power.  Snow wise, apparently we got exactly what they said we would. 16" officially at the airport but most of the state got 18-24" not nearly as much as central Connecticut which I heard got as much as 3 feet

The city I live in (Syracuse) is rated as the snowiest city of its size in the US, I'd never even noticed they'd started naming snow storms. I just look out my window in the mornings to see if I need to leave 10 minutes earlier for work. We got 8-10" last night, roads are already pretty much clear.

Some wildly fluctuating snow totals from this storm. We got about 10 inches, while parts of Long Island (40 miles east) got 30 inches, and my sister in Brooklyn (in between us and Long Island) reports only about 6 inches.

The curious thing, my block, which is a 1/4 mile dead end street (which the real estate people seem to think is a cul-de-sac) usually is one of the last streets in town to be plowed. We joke that we're not even sure it's on the town map. This time around, it was plowed twice overnight, and is down to blacktop already. Either somebody greased somebody over at the Town Yard, or one of those guys moved on the block recently.

Bring it with you the next time you head up this way and I'll swap you my dad's old single-stage model straight up...it can't handle the big snows but would be perfect for the little ones you get.
