Sea Food

Which is your favorite sea food? Well I always go with prawn and lobster while talking about sea food.

    oysters, mullet red roe, crab legs, scallops,   ... heck, I like seafood.     ... shrimp not so much any more as most have been washed too much and have no flavor.  Some I can still taste the bleach. Food Lion trick for old seafood, other grocery stores do this at their seafood counter.

    Scallops, Al? Really? I thought it was oysters...hehe. Ed-I dont buy pre cooked shrimp too much anymore-but a great tip for defrosting said fare-put a bay leaf and Old Bay seasoning in the water you defrost the shrimp in..........

    Any variety of shellfish: crab, lobster, scallops, shrimp.
     
    Can't stand anything with a "fishy" taste or smell: anchovies, sardines, lox, canned tuna, etc.
     
    I know I'm probably "missing out", but even a nice grilled swordfish would never be my choice of entre if any variety of beef, pork, or fowl is available.
     
    All that said, every now and then I crave a "Pittsburgh-style" fish sandwich every now and then.

    I was referring to the fresh shrimp on the grocery store seafood counter.    The ones where the clerk will ask if you want them steamed or uncooked.  
     
    Most of the pre-cooked frozen shrimp have too much breading for my liking.

    Gulf oysters, Gulf Shrimp and trout from Lake Pontchartrain. I'm pretty picky about shrimp and won't buy the Chinese stuff that's in so many stores.

    Squid is my favorite.

     
    I liked squid when I was overseas.   The only squid I can find is package for bait.   ... A couple of years ago, I found some squid in a locate grocery store seafood section the box was clearly marked 'bait'.

    Squid is a multi-tasker.

    An Asian grocery would have Squid...if there's one anywhere in the area...or for a Squid run.

    I like bay scallops as compared to sea scallops.  Those little pops of heavenly sweetness, yummmmmmmm.

    Shad roe has to be way up on my list. Black Sea Bass(Tautog) is certainly my favorite fish, deep fried little whole catfish, found only in the South in my experience, are a delight; lump Chesapeake Bay crab meat has to be high on the list; and oysters on the half shell I wouldn't want to live without.

    As it happens there'll be some jumbo lump crabmeat on the dinner plates here tonight in the form of crabcakes. Along with the crabcakes there will be steaks and asparagus.

    Catfish and Crab. Dungeness time on the West Coast.
    I've become really smitten with Crab burritos, smothered in green sauce too.

    Hmmmm.let's see.........looks up to the name.......ok.it wins hands down.  Next might be lobster, followed by well done broiled scallops asnd then any fried oyster (not raw).a poh-boy the best!  Shrimp then.depending on how they are done.
     
    When we finally get around to something that swims......swordfish....and you can keep much of the rest of the fins unless it is one terrifically prepared red snapper with lors of garlic.

    Shrimp po-boy sounds pretty good to me. I have to be careful, I used to eat anything from the sea or rivers but 2 years ago I had a wonderful crab dish at a sushi place and wound up in the hospital for 3 days with a reaction. I can still eat shrimp, salmon and perch but about once a month.

    For me that is a very difficult question because I love everything that comes out of the water (except gooeyduck clams). 
    One favorite fish:  fresh bluefin tuna
    One favorite crustacean:  live king crab (available occasionally in Anchorage)

    I like clams any way they come raw, steamed, deviled, chowder etc. 
    and blue crabs (callinectes sapidus) steamed and picked or crab cakes.   
    I was going to say the best crab cakes are those at a place called the Captain's Galley in Crisfield Md, but when I tried to google their website, I found that they had closed years ago.

    Ed-wasnt speaking of breaded stuff, but okay.I was speaking of shrimp I like to boil myself. But in a pinch, when the shrimp are precooked( not breaded, heaven forbid) when i defrost them in water, I add a bay leaf and Old Bay......

    Beer steamed shrimp.  Put a couple of cups of water in the steamer pot.  Add 1/4 cup beer, 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup Old Bay.  Steam shrimp for just a few minutes.


    I just steam shell-on shrimp with beer. I've used Old Bay a few times in the beer, but mostly I just use beer alone. After steaming I ice the shrimp down and serve them with catsup and horseradish -- mix your own and dunk.
