    Another Beatles album; Yellow Submarine. Followed soon after by almost everything they've ever done.

      Rubber Soul, by the Beatles! As I recall, this was the beginning of their foray into non-traditional rock and roll, and included the use of a sitar, and possibly some other Indian instruments. I think that this followed their "discovery" of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

      Do you recall that, back in those days, most albums were available in your choice of mono or stereo formats? Since we had a pathetic little Webcor Hi-Fi that was monaural, I saved a few cents on each album by buying the mono versions. Of course, they never sounded quite as good.

        This was my first album. I think I loved every song on there and I thought I was so cool when I bought it in 8th grade back in the '60's.

            "Days of Future Passed" by Moody Blues.

            My dad thought this was a way he could get a foot in the door to encourage me to listen to classical music.

            It worked.

                In 1970 it was Abraxas by Santana, up til then it was 45's for me.

                Do you remember your first 8 Track purchase? Mine was Best of BTO and Endless Summer by the Beach Boys.

                        "With the Beatles," from G.C. Murphy Co. (a dime store).

                        Paid for it with silver dollars.

                            How do you all remember what your first record or CD was?

                            I have owned a bunch but I cannot even begin to recall the first.

                                  Wow! I can't recall the name of the album, but it was Louis Prima, and the cuts included: Baciagaloop, The Anniversary Song, Hey! Ba-Be-Re-Bop, Josephine Please No Lean On The Bell, and Tutti Tutti Pizzicato. It was back around 1947 or so.

                                  Let's see -- "Baciagaloop, he sit on da stoop wid-a Maria." And then he wrote;
                                  Tutti Tutti Pizzicato, altogether won't you try. Tuttie Tuttie Pizzicato it's as easy as a pie."

                                  And people say our songs weren't memorable and meaningful.

                                    My first album was "Tommy" by the Who. Played it all the time. Do't have it any more, but bought the cassete in a sale bin and still listen to it. My first 8-track tape was Alice Cooper "Killer"

                                        I had enjoyed music for years already, but basically my parent's music. Classical, easy listening and the Tijuana Brass---those were the choices. So to buy a rock aqlbum of my own was a big deal----the first time "my music" entered the house. PS----#2 was the first Led Zeppelin album, #3 was Steppenwolf's "America" and #4 was Iron Butterfly--Inna Gadda Da Vida. I could go on----I guess they made such impressions on me that I remember many of those albums today and when I got them.

                                            Yes it was a big deal! It seemed like you had to be so careful of blowing $$ on albums that only had ONE song that you heard on the radio, and the rest was a crap shoot. Of course, at the time I had plenty of 45 singles, mostly Motown and Surfin' hits.

                                            Gizmolito,

                                            I think it was two birthday silver dollars, with change back, for the Mono album, to play on my parents' Hi-Fi.

                                              does'nt get any better than Pinball Wizard, does it?

                                              and Tommy can you hear me?!?

                                              I remember seeing the musical Tommy when it first came out on Broadway in the 70's

                                                The double album "Wheels of Fire" by Cream. It cost a whole 8 bucks and change at Thrifty Drug in Capistrano Beach. That required me to manually mow, rake and hand edge 4 big fat non tract home sized lawns, or wash, chamois and vacuum 4 big hunks of Detroit steel, or any combination thereof. My folks didn't believe in giving kids an allowance.

                                                I still have that album and have never tired of listening to the live performances of "Crossroads", "Spoonful", and "Toad", although these days I don't listen to those cuts from the vinyl, as I have no turntable. Ginger Baker was/is quite the drummer.

                                                  I "came of age" in the 60's.. therefore I have a legitimate reason not to remember what the first album was that I bought.
                                                  But I remember the first FM station in Miami...
                                                  WBUS.. the magic Bus.. 92 on the dial....

                                                    Let's see -- "Baciagaloop, he sit on da stoop wid-a Maria." And then he wrote;

                                                    And people say our songs weren't memorable and meaningful.
                                                    One of the most memorable experiences in my life was hearing Benny Goodman at the Playboy Jazz festival in 1978. And one of our local gourmet pizza mini-chains is called Pizzicato. 40's music was something I got into later in life.

                                                      After stacks of 45's, I beleive the first actual album I ever bought was Bob Seger, Night Moves.

                                                            Uncle Vic:

                                                            Did anyone ever find your stash? I quess not, if it served its purpose.

                                                            First album that I purchased with my own money was a Harry Belafonte album, it had a red cover with Harry on the front wearing a green calypso shirt, songs included,Day-O, and what I think was the Banana Boat Song.

                                                            Can't remember the lst 8 track I bought, but maybe it was Rare Earth.

                                                            I also had a Lear 4-track before the 8 tracks came out.
