Oh...by the way...my dinner table is where you can find the best grilled ribeye, au poivre, prime rib, and ribeye basted in butter.  Sorry, I can't get it that good anywhere else.

It's called "My Dinner Table"...open for business 7 days a week...but on an extremely limited schedule.  Reservations are a must.

Now...Peter Lugar's.  If the picture below is the best this "icon" can produce, they don't deserve to be on anyone's list.  For the money you drop there you at least deserve a clean plate.  Absolutely shameful presentation.  I wouldn't expect a plate that dirty at the local greasy spoon.  I'm utterly shocked.

  The post provides no backup information or basis for the poster's comments.  Those comments run  in direct opposition to everything we have read or seen regarding Peter Lugars Steak House. I labeled it a "troll post" because, without any background or followup information, it sure looks like all he wanted to to do was create an immediate reaction from other members, with no intention of providing any intelligent supporting data for his statement.
  I don't care if he is a 'Newbie' or has 139 posts... Trolling up comments is not an acceptable behavior.

  Thanks for adding to you comment. With the edit, I can say it doesn't seem like a troll post now.  Do you have any personal experience with Peter Lugers? I Don't. So all my thoughts are the result of the media coverage and reviews by others. That's why I haven't raved about  (or demeaned) the place. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so a negative comment is acceptable, if backed by experience.

how about Chuck's Steakhouse in Connecticut & Mass.
not a high priced place but reasonable with good cuts, the top sirloin is as tender as the filet but larger & less expensive with just the right seasonings
I wish there was a place like that down here that didn't charge $25 for a 16oz sirloin.  

On NYCTV they showcased some of the newer steakhouses in the city,BLT Prime,Craftsteak,Dylans Prime,LandMarc,Quality Meats,StagHorn,StripHouse. The 64oz cut at Quality Meats was quite impressive. They showed the different cuts of prime beef that each restaurant serve and the signature way they age and prepare the cuts.

Borgata Casino A.C.- Old Homestead Steakhouse (NY). The steak was SO GOOD I was having an out of body experience!
Arturo's Bally's Casino- The BEST Filet I have ever had. PERIOD. I had some of the best around in NY.
Peter Luger's- Is really really GOOD but, in my opinion, lil over rated, lil bit, lil bit. Don't get me wrong. Next to Cattlemen & Old Homestead, Peter Luger is probally pound for pound the heavy weight champ.
Wow. I could really go for a good steak right about now. 

For anyone in the Louisville, KY metro kentuckiana area, I would recommend Roadhouse USA in Scottsburg, IN (just off I-65). They have a wonderful selection of steaks, other entrees (seafood, chicken,dinner salads, prime rib, sandwiches, soups and stews) and sides at a reasonable price. I personaly recommend the Grand Cut of Fliet of Tenderloin of Beef, medium rare. Very flavorful without seasonings overpowering the natural goodness of the beef, and extremely tender. Prices include a salad, two sides and all the freshly baked from scratch rolls you can eat.
The owner is almost always on site and usually working in the kitchen or out checking on the customers. Servers are very friendly and go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is great. There is a full (separate) bar with several big screen TVs tuned to sports broadcasts. There is also a separate smoking dining room.
Even during busy days such as Valentine's Day the wait is never excessive..we have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table and are usually seated immediately. They are open 10am-10pm Tuesday thru Sunday, closed on Monday.

The Great Steakhouses?

In my opinion, the greatest steakhouse on the planet is my own kitchen/patio. 

My wife and I can turn out a better USDA Prime, dry-aged porterhouse than ANY restaurant in the country.  In fact, with my Brenham, Texas, rancher relative's grass-fed Longhorn beef, and my expertise on the cooking end --- steak can NOT be purchased in a restaurant that even comes close.

BUT, if one feels the need to visit a restaurant, then Peter Luger's  in New Yawk City does an acceptable job.  We have been there numerous times --- and the steak is always good, and the attitudes of the employees are ALWAYS less than pleasing to us educated Southern types.

There you have it:  two choices.  Make your own because a good steak is like a good woman  -- properly raised, properly aged, and properly prepared, there is NOTHING better on Planet Earth.

Then if that's true, one might wonder WHY he would take a snippet of a 'comment' out of context --- unless he had some ulterior motive.
 
But, what do I know?

Many of us feel that doing a good steak at home has many rewards, but this discussion is focued on public dining locations. Let's keep it that way.

Luger's stands above all of the other NYC steakhouses that I've visited - old favorites such as The Palm, Sparks, Smith & Wollensky, and new contenders such as BLT Steak, Bobby Vans, Capital Grille and Michael Jordan's. All of the above deliver a great steak, but for me, Luger's combines the best taste with the right ambiance. A steakhouse should never be too fussy in my opinion, and everything else that is served should complement the steak and strive for the same degree of greatness. Luger's does it for me.

I used to take my furture bride to the Chuck's Steakhouse on the Post Road in Orange in 1964 and 1965. The steaks were terrific, the service was great, and it was a really terrific date place. It was the first place I ever saw a salad bar. I tried the salad bar once. That is, I went up to it, saw what it was, and never went near it, or any other such thing again.

I've been to Peter Lugars, Palm and Sparks in NYC..............There are great steakhouses all over our nation.  In SF, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, LA, et al.  I've been to a many but the greatest is.

Littleman,  We may differ on a lot of things, but on this one I must agree. The Family owned Doe's (Greenville, MS and Paducah, KY) would be at the top of my Great Steakhouses List also !!

 My personal favorites include The Famous in downtown Colorado Springs CO.
Right down the block is another great place called The Chophouse.

 Both places use U.S.D.A Prime, dry aged beef. Neither of these places are chain restaurants.
 
  At the Chophouse, they will cut the steak to your specs.
Whole strip loins, rib eye, and filets are prepped but not cut until the order is placed.
 
  I think that The Famous has better side dishes more suited to a "Steak House." Creamed spinach, and pomme frits are great as is the green beans almondine.

 Both of these places are worth a stop if you are in the area.

For me, it would probably have to be my experience at Brook's Steakhouse in Englewood, CO.  Not only great steak but a total superb dining experience.

I still stand by Doe's Eat Place in Greenville, MS and Peter Luger's as the best i've ever been.  Another great place is Metro 8 Steakhouse in Durham, NC.  They have an Argentine style skirt steak that is out of this world.  They have gotten great reviews throughout the Raleigh/Durham area.
