"Hot dogs - I guess I can't actually say I don't like them, but I won't go out of my way for them. The but always overpowers the dog, and if you eat it without the bun, the toppings won't stay on."

That sounds a bit kinky, to me.

Dang it, 6star, your list reminded me of a bunch of other stuff I don't like!:

        raw oysters
        licorice and anise

Also, capers- I don't mind the flavor they give to whatever they're in, but I tried eating an actual caper once and it was so gross. I am oddly fascinated by how they look in the jar, though, like a weird science experiment or something.

I also don't like orange-flavored things. Oranges and orange juice are okay, but I can't eat orange beef/chicken/pork at a Chinese restaurant, orange candy or even orange Tums. And mandarin oranges are on my list, too.

Same with fake cinnamon flavor- I love real cinnamon wherever I can use it, but cinnamon gum, candy, toothpaste, etc. are just off limits.

Maybe we should start a thread (if it's not around already) of stuff people can't believe you like!

OH MY GOD!!! Thank you, Adjudicator. It was late last night when I typed that and I obviously didn't proofread it well. I just went back and fixed it. I hope it's less kinky now.

Why is it that all the things you people don't like are the things I really like?

This is easy... Grape Nuts. I forget how awful they are every couple of years and try them again. Why can't I learrn?! They taste like twigs and rocks with a hint of barley. mmmmm barley.

I read through this and was relieved to see I am not the only person in the country who does not regard lobster and/or shrimp as the ultimate food.

I used to tell people that I didn't like them and would then be told everything from "You just haven't had them cooked right," to "You are un-American." Now, I just say I am allergic and they make a sad face in support.

When I answered this, I took it very literally, meaning I was listing things I thought I SHOULD like but don't. Not just things I don't. There are some things I feel slightly guilty about not liking because they are so good for you, and I don't have particularly good eating habits. My list of dislikes would be long and boring to read.

So I wish I liked more vegetables, especially green ones.

                        Hi all,

Fried bologna - The smell reminds me of when Mom used to boil kidneys for the cats.
                        Cilantro - Tastes like sweat.
Cumin - Like hitting a brick wall.
                        Anchovies - Stinky!
Organ meats - Some haggis ok if you don't have to see what went into it.
Fatty and gristly cuts of meat.
Seafood with tentacles - Gelatinous and gross.
Sausage and cheap hot dogs - Really don't like biting into gristle and bone chips!
                        Olives and capers.

There really isn't anything here I think I should like but it was fun to sound off!

Sometimes I think I'm lucky that I like practically every vegetable out there, nearly always did. You name it - beets, broccoli, lima beans, brussels sprouts...
...but eggplant is a tough one - has to be prepped right, or the spongy texture just puts me off. But I feel like I *should* like it.

                                    Without a doubt, Potato Salad. . .

Love potatoes, love mustard. .  But I had a teacher force me to eat some in the school cafeteria back about 67 or so.  To this day, even the smell of it makes me gag!

Hahaha--I'm glad okc-m responded and bumped up this old thread.  It's hilarious, not only for the interesting array of aversions to everyday foods, but for the descriptions of those things, like "cat sick" or "licking the basement floor."  Literally LOL.

Anyway, for a food I "should" like but absolutely hate, I'm a mayo-phobe.  It's stinky stinky, and I don't like the appearance or even the sound of the knife going into the jar.  My mom used to put it on my bologna sandwiches, and I gave the bread to my dog.  (Maybe I should get together with the bologna haters!)

Well, the big one is corn. Especially home grown, fresh picked, corn on the cob. get the water boiling, go out and pick the corn, just barely cook it, salt, butter, pepper, dive in.... it tastes like.....corn.

always tastes like...corn.... everyone around the table is weeping with joy and I'm hearing Peggy Lee singing "Is that All There Is?"

I don't really care for chocolate either. not chocolate cake, cookies, candy and especially not chocolate icecream.

Mom and Dad always enjoyed turnips.  Personally, I could not tolerate them.  Roz is totally different.  She likes all of her meat burn't.  Anything with eggs in it, she can detect it immediately.  We were at a cafeteria and she got mac and cheese.  She said she tasted eggs.  I did not believe her and sure enough, they confirmed it contained eggs.  Mamaw Smith will not eat anything sweet except fruit.

I don't feel that I "should" like any food I don't enjoy. I don't care who likes or doesn't like the fact that I don't like something.

                                            I'm expected to like Italian sausage...but I don't.

Or if it's that I "should" like peanut butter because I like peanut butter cups & those peanut butter cookies that are shaped like a peanut. No on regular peanut butter.

Well I thought I should like Boars head pork and beef bologna so I bought a 1/2 lb. I'm going back to my bologna has a first name.

                                                Nutter Butter. That's the cookie

I'm not even gonna say how do you not like Boar's Head? because I believe in minding my own damn business.

I thought the Boars Head bologna at $6.79 a pound had to be better than the OM at much less. Maybe it is to some folks but thought it had a tough texture and just didn't taste like I thought bologna should. I tend to make judgements like that, automatically thinking that a product that costs more is better.

I just LOVE dark chocolate- I know that milk chocolate is supposed to be the 'naughty' chocolate- but I just don't find it as good.
