King Sooper's (Krogers). Of course, I haven't had one in several years, so I don't know if they're still any good.

I lucked out, I went to pick up two bags of ice today at 10:15 and they were bringing out a fresh batch.

(they started making 2 batches on sat/sun )

I gotta go with Bradenton Donuts here in the sprawling metropolis I like to call Bradentucky, Florida. A very nice Chinese family owns the place, and for about a buck, I can get an apple fritter the size of a Porterhouse steak. Since I'm diabetic, their fritters are unfortunately a rare treat for me these days, but damn they're good.

Whoever makes the apple fritters for 7-11 in the Westfield, N.J., area knows pastry. Ready for some sacrilege? I'll put this pastry up there with some of the best French and Italian pastries I've eaten. Just sayin'.

Don't know who bakes for them but all the donuts, fritters, bismarks, cake and long johns etc at Circle K are pretty good

Our local Tom Thumb (Safeway) makes a really enjoyable apple fritter.  However, I have observed that their size has shrunk by 40% (or so) over the past six months.

(It really amuses me that the Federal Government alleges that inflation is minimal.  When pastries, ice cream cartons, and cereal boxes shrink but the price remains the same - that is inflation).

The best I've ever had are at the Orange Blossom Bakery in Buxton on the outer banks of NC.  They are called Apple Uglies there and you have to go early to get them but they are totally worth it.

I'll second the Apple Uglies from Orange Blossom. They come fried or baked, and the fried are just the best. Get there early, as they're really popular and see out quick. Their donuts are pretty decent, too. If you want to make your own Uglies they sell a cookbook with the recipe.

It used to be Top Food here in Wenatchee, but the store was closed.  The ladies that worked in the bakery opened a new shop called Glaze and they make the best apple fritter!  They also make a blueberry fritter, I had my first today and I think it's one of the best pastries I've ever had.  btw, their fritters are nearly the size of a dinner plate!

Dear Pigiron:  An apple fritter is made from leftover doughnut dough and mixed with apples and apple pie seasonings.  It's then fried and glazed like other doughnuts.  They're typically very big, kinda heavy, and have a nice crunchy crust.  Mmmmmm

There are other kinds of fritters, though, not to be confused with the apple fritters you find at doughnut shops.  They can be pretty much anything that's dipped in thick batter and deep fried.  Corn fritters are my favorites of this type; however, banana fritters are great, too!

What's the difference between a fritter and a donut?

If you find yourself in my hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, head east out of town on State Road 37 towards the Indiana/Ohio border. Halfway there you'll come across the small town of Harlan, Indiana. Just off the main drag on Water Street, you'll find Harlan Donuts. These fine people do a great job at all their baked goods. But their apple fritter is "nectar of the gods"!
It's actually an APPLE fritter not an apple FRITTER.
