I have had more than a few conversations with fellow members about why there is significantly less activity on the discussion boards here. Every time I see this thread, it makes me wonder if this isn't one of the primary reasons?
Posting pictures here is an absolute hassle. Posting pictures other places is easy. For Facebook, it is essentially one click; Twitter the same. I won't get into the ease of using other sites mobile applications (Yelp, UrbanSpoon, Google+/Maps), but rather focus on the posting of pictures.
It wasn't that long ago when people were embarrassed to be seen taking pictures of their food. It was for freaks.
Wanderingjew still thinks so, but I digress. Now, there are places that actively encourage people to take photos - and, naturally, share them online with their friends and followers. In addition to Facebook and Twitter, there are entire sites devoted to the positing of food pictures (i.e. Foodspotting). While roadfood.com was one of the places that may have incubated the idea that taking pictures of food should not be verboten, technology has passed this site by....by a lot....and quickly.
In the time it took me to do
this, I might have been able to get myself logged in to rf.com's mobile site and found the appropriate forum into which I should have posted. Forget that I would have had to upload the same photo to another host site, type the post and link back to the original photo - all while using a keyboard that is not that easy to use.
I'm not trying to start any trouble or stir up any debate - but, as a long-time user of this site, my time here has dwindled considerably, and this is absolutely one of the reasons why.
