If you love Mojito you need to try a Caipirinha. You tube it so you know to make one. You wont be dissappointed. I use raw sugar when I make them. My wife demands I make her one every Sunday as she watches her recorded episode of Cane...Russ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pku1SPhRME

At home: Evan Williams Black and filtered water over ice. When its on sale I substitute W. L. Weller's 'special reserve'. In restaurants: Wild Turkey or Benchmark neat with ice and water on the side. (When I'm paying - getting soaked - $12 for a drink I want my moner's worth)! As tasty as mixed drinks are I tended to "lose count" with Tequila Sunrises, Gin & Tonics, etc. Aside from a polte sip of "the host's specialty" at private parties, my last mixed drink was circa 1975. Haven't had a hangover since!

Since 1975 I have enjoyed a number of Caipirinhas in RJ, my absolute favorite winter vacation spot. There, I have a few to induce the very necessary afternoon nap prior to the Rio nightlife. I have always found them to have a narcotic effect, especially when consumed in the sunlight on or near the beach. Wonderful stuff; but never had one back home where afternoon naps are not necessary.

UncleVic My drink at home is Vodka w/Vernors on the rocks.. When I go out, I normally order a Tanqueray and tonic with a twist of lemmon. Nothing fancy here.. Gin and tonic, my favorite!! Some people I know claim gin tastes like drinking pine sap, but I love it!!! And my friends that drink Vodka Martini's get my statement that a REAL martini is made with gin!

Scotch on the rocks for me but in the summer sometimes I like vodka with lemon juice. Oh, and a shot of brandy now and then, it is winter you know.

I generally drink bourbon neat. Lately I have been revolving between Maker's Mark, Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve just depending on what mood I'm in when browsing in the liquor store. Last trip I switched it up when I saw a bottle of Templeton Rye on the shelf. That rye is so smooth you forget you had two fingers worth and start reaching for the bottle again. Dangerous stuff.

I guess I am the opposite of MH. I don't imbibe much 'straight' hard booze anymore...but I do take it in as a vital part of a "sweet/sour" mixed drink. I joke about a Redneck Whiskey Sour (2 Parts Mountain Dew or frozen Lemonade concentrate to one part Bourbon).. in a large enough cup (32 oz minimum), and I am pretty well set for a ball game or a dinner table surrounded by Grandchildren.. No Gin, ever. Vodka in Bloody Mary's or lime (sort of a Gimlet), not much into Rum or other stuff... But Bourbon in the Lemon mix is at the top of my ist.

Al, you sound like a good candidate for a Dickel Drop. It's comprised of George Dickel and Sun Drop. Only in Tennessee!

I still have a George Dickel commemorative bottle (that once was full of very nice stuff) in the shape of a powder horn with leather accoutrements. Never had any Sun Drop.

Yes, the powder horn! It was produced in the late sixties and early seventies. Dickel is made in Cascade Hollow, Tn. Neither of the two large distilleries in Tennessee is locally owned any longer. Jack Daniels is part of Brown Forman, and Dickel belongs to Diageo, the British giant. Diageo also owns brands such as Smirnoff Jose Cuervo,Crown Royal, Guinness and Ketel One.

I do recall our walk-around at the Dickel Distillery a few years ago. It sort of spoils the image of the small country distilleries when you are aware of them being owned by the "General Motors" of the Booze Business.

I like a glass of Tullamore Dew or Jamesons with a little water, or a good single malt scotch on the rocks or a little water (Macallan 12 is my favorite). Cocktails, I like a good mojito or a Jim Beam and Vernor's with lemon. I used to drink vodka and soda, but I got into some trouble with that so I generally stay away from it. I don't drink much liquor at all anymore, in fact. So it's a nice treat when I have a cocktail.

Michael Hoffman I haven't had Tullamore Dew in more than 30 years. I used to love that stuff. Always neat with a little water on the side. My favorite dessert after a good meal, a glass of Dew next to a pint of Guinness. I prefer it to Jamesons. I really like Tyrconnell more than the other two, but I haven't seen it anywhere around here.
