Ironically, I lived right next store to the Lexington Candy Shop for seven years. Really good, although rather pricey: I guess quaintness comes at a cost these days (at least in NY).

Beside's Taylor Drugs in Granville. I have heard that there is another in Hudson OH (Northeast OH) called Saywell's that still has a soda fountain.

I wonder how many others there are still in Ohio?

danfling mentioned (10/7/04) the soda fountain run by Winn-Dixie. You're right. It was awful. However, Winn-Dixie is out of business here, and the drugstore was taken over by Brent's... the other soda fountain in town. It really is back up to speed. Try a slaw burger. Or the lemonade. Or a patty melt. They also do breakfast. Betty & Sue, who run it, are the ones who ran the old Parkins version.

In San Antonio there is the Olmos Park Pharmacy in Olmos Park which is still a soda fountain, and there is one in a store in downtown Seguin across from the Guadalupe County Courthouse.I have never tried either, but the Olmos Park one is pretty good from reviews in the newspaper.other than those two,i can't think of any others in this area.

I think there's still a drug store soda fountain in the town of West Union, Ohio which is in Southern Ohio near the Ohio River, maybe an hour east of Cinci. Blake's Pharmacy is on the town square, very quaint town in an Amish/Mennonite area of Ohio that's lots less touristy than Holmes County (south of Canton) or Geauga County (east of Cleveland).

Nearer to my part of the state, Vermilion has a soda fountain - it used to be the pharmacy on US 6 at Rt 60, but the pharmacy was losing money and so the owners now have a soda fountain and grill - Main Street Soda Grill.

We visited Hurst corner drug store and soda fountain in Bardstown, Kentucky a few years ago for ice cream soda and sundaes.  It looked like your typical old fashioned fountain, except everyone ordering there were all tourists just like us!

Butt Drugs in Corydon, Indiana is one of the old-fashioned soda fountains. It was in a thread here not long ago. It is a fun place to visit.

In 1950, my dad had just graduated the U of I College of Pharmacy and purchased Castellano's Pharmacy located on the corner of Kedzie & Harrison on Chicago's west side. The pharmacy came with a full soda fountain: marble counter tops, lots of stainless steel, tin ceiling, and mirrored walls. From the time I was 5 years old, I spent every weekend with my dad working at his drug store as one of Chicago's youngest soda jerks serving the finest shakes, malts, sodas, sundaes, banana splits, aand phosphates. Today, a nearly identical soda fountain exists in Kenosha, WI. Andrea's is a unique fourth generation shop featuring Kenosha souvenirs, gifts, candy, an award winning cigar and tobacco shop and a historic soda fountain cafe.

www.andreasgifts.com/   Check out Jack's Cafe & History. I've been eating lunch at this place for the last 30 years.

I had a cold roast beef sandwich and a hot fudge sundae for lunch yesterday ( not at the same time! ) at the nifty little soda fountain at the Roadfood-reviewed Bauder's Pharmacy in Des Moines IA yesterday. It's a tiny store about one-tenth the size of the average Walgreen's, but it has a lot of old-fashioned charm and the food's pretty good, especially the ice cream.

There's a lovely drug store soda fountain in Dillard, about two minutes' drive from the NC border.  I don't recall the name of the place, but it's a hop, skip and a jump south of the antique mall on US23.  They mix fresh lemonades, limeades and orangeades and I certainly recommend travelers stop in.

We have a lovely one called Timberlakes in downtown Charlottesville. Excellent egg creams, salad plates and my favorite, REAL turkey sandwiches.

Part of my family ran a soda fountain in Orange, VA for years. It's hard not to get a little teary eyes walking into Timberlakes. The pharmacy and the soda fountain (with a fireplace!) really take me back.

THere is one In Clayton ga. too, less than 10 miles south of Dillard on 441.  It is one block west of 441 in the main part of town, called the Clayton pharmacey.  It is not an old soda shop, it is only 15 years old or so, but they have a working soda fountain and charge I believe 1.95 for a frsh made soda, and H-B machine for shakes.
