Beautiful photo joerogo, but I have to disagree with you about pies. Not being much of a pizza lover (I might eat pizza two or three times a year), I much prefer the sweet kind. But that is one of the things that makes Roadfood so interesting and fun.....there is something for everyone!

A trip up along Minnesota's Lake Superior North Shore can be pie heaven. Here are three places worthy of sampling.

Maple Apple Cream, The Pie Place, Grand Marais, MN

Rustic Inn Cafe Pies, Castle Danger, MN - Blueberry and Strawberry Rhubarb

Betty's Pies, Two Harbors, MN - Blueberry pie and Great Lakes Crunch pie (apple, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and rhubarb)

It would be easy to make at home. Just buy a jar of Welch's Grape Jelly, pour it in a frozen pie crust, then microwave on high for 5 minutes.

I grew up in North Philadelphia, PA. in the 50s, at a time when it was a marvelously enclaved, ethnic area, well before diversity was a concept to be discussed as a sociological concept.
My father had a dry cleaning shop and I delivered clothes, across turfs, with the security that I was safe because nobody knew whose mother's church dress I was carrying. I was a lot safer then behind a size 20 black dress than behind a flak vest 20 years later, in the same neighborhod, working on a mental health crisis service.
Long story short, I was tipped with many a wonderful slice of hot, fresh baked pie in those early years

Made a apple pie with our local Gravensteins last night, with a crumb top - my wife had to restrain me from eating the whole danged thing!

You're welcome. Sunday is a good day for making pies.
The green tomato pie needs alot of sugar, a cup of brown, a cup of white. Tastes like a cross between rhubarb and apple, kids like cream and ice cream on it, I like it plain.

I just had this wicked piece of Snickers Icebox Pie from Magnolia Bakery in NYC. I think the crust was made from Famous Wafers. It had a deep chocolate flavor and the filling had a light, creamy consistency and a nice tang (cream cheese, possibly?). Lots of candy pieces on top and a layer of peanut butter between the filling and the crust really sealed the deal for me. This was $4 and I struck up a nice conversation with the girl behind the counter, so she hooked me up with a big piece!

I'm still looking for a recipe for the walnut topping that Beadles Cafeteria in Pasadena, CA puts on tops of their lemon chess pie.

It's my all time favorite and I like a lot of pies!

TO BuffetBuster, ChiTwnDnr, and all my other Pie-Loving friends-

Costco has entered their Pecan Pie season. They will bake their Pecan Pies until January 1st. If you haven't done one of those Giant Pecan Pies, I urge you to get one and see if it would add to your Holiday menu!!

Yesterday Janet surprised me with a Pecan and a Pumpkin pie when she returned from a Costco Run. (I am temporairily immobilized). So Since I have to lay-off good beef for awhile she treated me to these beauties.

The Pumpkin is $6 and the Pecan is $10, both are 14 inch pies able to more than satisfy the typical Roadfood Family for some time !

OK, I have to BRAG a bit about my Bride's Good Deeds today. Her Church is having a "Feed the Multitudes" Supper tonight and she is furnishing some desserts for it. We decided to use some of our frozen Peaches, from last Summers Fruit Crop, for the Peach Cobblers she is taking to the dinner. We did four of them.... One for us at home and Three to take with her to the Supper.
While not "Pie" in the direct definition, I think this is close enough to deserve mention in you list ! Looks pretty good to me !
