Wisconsin Friday Fishfry Favorites

I'm surprised there isn't an active thread on Wisconsin Friday Fishfries at Roadfood, populated with more posts than Davydd has eaten Pork Tenderloins. My wife kept seeing Stolley's Hog Alley listed at our newspaper website's Reader's Picks forum (link below). First of all, Stolley's is a Biker's Bar, but its a nice Biker's Bar. Anyone driving between Milwaukee and Madison has probably seen this place situated between two lakes, and not known how to get there. We went with friends and found the fish to be outstanding and very reasonably priced. Walleye fillets big enough to knock you over, blue gills, or all-you-can-eat Cod. The side dishes served family style - homemade potato pancakes, German potato salad, slaw and bread. STOLLEY'S HOGG ALLEY 2008 N. I haven't had the fish fry at the Hogg, but I'll definitely go try it one of these Fridays. I've eaten there on a few occasions (it's only a few miles from where I live) and the food is good. It's also a nice place to hang out and have a few. Once I get around to trying it, I'd be happy to report back in.

While were have eaten steaks at HOOKER's several times in the past couple of years, we have never been there on Friday night for their Fish Fry. All of my daughters friends in that area rave about the quality and the price, so we hope to attend one this coming Spring. They give you the choice of Cod, Blue Gill, Walleye, or Frog's Legs. Check the menu on the website. Located near Poynette and the Split-Junction of 39/90 above Madison. On the Wisconsin River. http://www.hookersresort.com/lake-wisconsin-restaurants.asp

My mom & stepdad like the fish fry @ Park Avenue Pizza in Pewaukee. I like the fish fry @ Albanese's Deli. The Roadhouse has the same fish fry. They use Sicilian steak breading on their fish & you get your choice of spaghetti, mostaccioli, or french fries with your fish. You also get a piece of Italian bread, a butter pat, a lemon wedge & coleslaw.

We've had some additional fishfries come to our attention since the last posting. The Journal-Sentinel's Carol Deptolla listed some new favorites last week and followed up this week with reader's favorites. We tried Todd's Grill in Oconomowoc this week and their coleslaw immediately jumped to the top of our list. As Deptolla mentions, the slaw contains bacon, but that doesn't really describe it. It is much list eating German potato salad in the form of coleslaw. We cleaned the bowl that was provided. Todd's clam chowder was top notch and their fish and potato pancakes were also quite good. The gang tried the North Lake Inn recently and will add their cod to our best of the best list. North Lake broasts their fish, which was a first for us. Broasting makes the batter extremely crispy.

Pie Diva & boyz tried Mibbs & Viv's in Lannon and gave it a 6 thumbs up rating. Get there early (very early) or you will face a multi-hour wait. Also check out Milwaukee Fishfry list. jrp

Carol Deptolla posted more reader choices for fish fries in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Bobbi & the Dependents tried the Elias Inn Supper Club in Watertown last night. She reports that it is one of the best overall fish fries they have tried.

Roadfood contributor King T had good things to say about Cliff's Boathouse down in Racine. He posted a review at LTHForum under the name "Da Beef": http://lthforum.com/bb/vi...4&p=440965#p440965 I don't know why he doesn't post here more frequently. The quality of his pictures and copy would make him an instant superstar on Roadfood. Buddy

The latest installment of Carol Deptolla's Fish Fry reporting in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is here. As Jack Webb might say: The names weren't changed because no one's innocence needed protecting.
