Papa Murphy's take & bake chain

We have one not far from the house.  It's better than most takeout chains, like, say, a Domino's pizza.  Easy to bake as well.  I do like the fresh ingredients, and the staff and owner are very friendly; the place is spotless also.  Can't really fault them.
 
Is it great pizza?  Nope, but it beats many alternatives around here.

I agree, grillman, with the things you say about  Papa Murphey's.

baking a papa murphy's pizza asap is the way to go. let it sit too long at room temps and the crust gets too chewy...

Guys, my sister who moved from pizza heaven here in Jersey to outside denver, used to have to drive 20+ miles to get a pizza...a Dominos. Things are a bit better now....but discussing how not so bad a chain is..is sad. I'd drive 50 miles for a real Italian pizza.....and if there wasn't one that close...I'd move!!!Papa Murphy..Papa John...Papa Bernies...who cares........I'd no more eat a slice of fast food pizza as I would a Micky Di burger!

When I lived in Seattle, they had Papa Murphy's out there- Although most of the Pizza Joints were chains, independent or not- Seattle Pizza was just downright depressing.

FOOD STAMPS,you can't buy a prepare meal with food stamps, so maybe this is one of the reason they don't bake them, can sell to everyone.

I find that a perfectly acceptable use of SNAP. Food Stamps does not mean you are expected to subsist on rice and beans only. An occasional Pizza is not out of the question in my opinion.
 
At least she's not selling them at the liquor store.

Papa Murphy's is definitely not a "gourmet" pizza, but you aren't paying $20 for them either. I always get their thin crust pies, add a few more ingredients, and toss it in the oven. I think they are much better than Dominos and way better than the greasy crap Pizza Hut passes as pizza.  

I rather like papa murphy's. it was a mainstay when we did not want to cook and wanted something easy to prepare. it was fast and a bit better than Domino's. People can buy frozen pizza in grocery stores with food stamps and i don't see a lot of objection if somebody feeds a family of 4 with a 12 buck pizza from Papa murphy's.
 

I also believe that it depends on the store. The Papa Murphy's in Fairborn, OH near Wright-Patterson AFB has been consistently decent, and it offers a 20% discount to active and retired military. If I do not feel like cooking I can stop on the way home, grab a thin-crust single topping for 5 bucks after the discount, go home and throw a few extras on it and have a cheap, easy, and IMHO quite good pizza for the wife and I. I think that they are better than any chain pizza place around here.
On the other hand, if I get the taste for really good pizza, well, it's only 12 miles to Kettering for Troni's..

Papa Murphy's is down the road from me and it's a hit or miss. I have gotten really great pizza and pizza that didn't rise at all. It's all bout who makes it for you.

If you're in the Philly area, I strongly recommend Bake At Home Pizza, with locations in Manayunk and Devon.  They were previously franchises of "Mom's Bake At Home Pizza" but the suits decided to save money on ingredients, quality suffered and Mom's has lost most of its locations.  These two were always exceptional using fresh ingredients and now they have a new supplier for dough.   Check out the really unique pizzas on the menu.

Papa Murphy's came to town this month.  I bought a pizza from them.  Took it home.  Baked it.  Ate it.  I won't be going back.  The taste reminded me of one of those awful $4 frozen pizzas that you buy at the supermarket that are fit for a dog.
 
Ingredients were fresher than a frozen pizza, but fresh ingredients alone don't make a pizza.  They really need to work on the dough.  I asked for thin crust.  What I got was what they think of as thin crust (1/2 inch thick).  Believe me, that's not thin crust--not even close.  The dough just ruined it for me.
 

There's no Papa Murphy's around me but I see they did well in Consumer Reports ratings - not so well with people here.
However, if you are anywhere around Philly, I strongly recommend Original Bake At Home Pizzas in Manayunk or Devon (previously Mom's Bake At Home).  Check out the menu...

I especially like the Mykonos Spinach and the Portabella Special - on the extra thin whole wheat crust.
 
 

I cant really complain too much about Papa Murphys. Though the funny thing is the grocery store in town has been doing really good take and bake pizza for longer than the Papa Murphys has been in buisness. Guess what opened almost next to the grocery store? Yes, a Papa Murphys. So we shall see how this all pans out. Though the grocery store pizzas are notablly cheaper than Papas Murphy. And the quality of the grocery store pizza is as good or better yet than Papa Murphys.
 

Papa Murphy's has been in the Kansas City area for awhile but lately it seems like they are expanding even further, so they must be well liked here.  I have not gotten on that bandwagon.  I suppose if I had to choose between a Domino's, Little Caesar's, Pizza Hut, or Papa Murphy's, then I would choose Papa, but that is not saying much.  The pizzas from PM that I have tried have not impressed me.  I would rather stick with a mom-n-pop operation or a smaller, local chain.
