V8 vs. Tomato Juice

I like both, Got to have a blast of salt and pepper mixed in, if I had to choose one over the other it would be V8, love the spicy variety also. great base to use when enhancing a Bloody Mary mix, Worchester, lemon juice, tobasco, celery salt, Campbells boullion, horseradish, etc...what's your choice?

Regular V8 has too much salt.  Most Tomato juice also has added salt. 

No V8...Yes for tomato juice.

V-8, absolutely.  Actually, I buy Walmart's Great Value Vegetable Juice.  Big price difference, tastes about the same.

I like both but V-8 is my favorite.

I like the low sodium V-8.

I was turned on to Clamato juice in the 70s. Both for bloody marys or just plain. My husband likes v8. Not that high in sodium(109 mg compared to v8 low sodium at 140 mg)and it tastes great.And no-I dont work for the company...

I once need a little more liquid for some chili so I added some Spicy V-8.  It got rave reviews so it is now a regular ingredient.

I use that when I make my vegetable soup.

I am a V-8 person.  I recently bought a 6 pack of low sodium V-8 to try.  I could really tell the difference between the regular and low salt.   I like the regular V-8 better though.  Thanks for the ideas for using the spicy V-8 for soups and chili; can't wait to try it this winter.

I think the low sodium V-8 works OK for cooking, but for drinking, it tastes like crap, JMHO.

I also buy the low sodium V-8 juice. It's Very good for you. Especially without all the salt added.

Well, sometimes, it's not what's very good for you.  Sometimes, it's about taste.  If taste didn't matter, we could all just go crab a hunk of tofu and chow down.

I heat up equal parts of Veggie Juice and Veggie Broth to steaming but not a boil and it makes a great refreshing drink!

I do the low sodium because of my kidneys but the store brand (Roundy's) has an NSA vegetable juice that is awesome. It actually has less sodium than the lo-so V8.

I like to add lemon seltzer to the juice.

I agree with your wife.  I do use tomato juice for vegetable soup and like V-8 to drink for an afternoon snack, those tiny cans are perfect for that.

For Bloody Mary's: V8 or Clamato or both. I never use Tomatoe Juice in Bloody Marys. But Tomato Juice on its own is excellent. Pepper only...Russ

Ahh - Bloody Mary's - we've been on the unending quest for the perfect Bloody Mary for over 10 years now - we find a recipe we think we like and then a new mixer comes along and then we're fine tuning it with either V8 or Clamato juice or something else.

To me - V8 stands alone - I've tried the low sodium and it's just not right. 

If you Google "Bloody Mary Mix", you will get about 5,670,000 responses.

Point being, whatever tastes good to you is the best recipe. 
My quest is to try all 5,670,000 varieties!! I figure if I make one Bloody Mary a day from the list, it will take me 15,534 days to try them all, OR expressed in years, 42.55 years!!! By that time, I'll be 110 years old. It's a great motivator to stay on the Planet!!

  I use " V-8 " juice in my Swiss steak  recipe. Adds a lot of flavor and I don't have to add salt to the original recipe. I do prefer the light sodium for the Bloody Mary mix as I like to add olive juice to mine which we know has a lot of salt. Horseradish, Worchestershire, celery salt, a dash of "Cholula" hot sauce, and fresh squeezed lime juice round out the mix for me.  I like to garnish with a pickled green bean or even a pepperoncini.

I like the Spicy V8, but it's not spicy enough for my tastes. Sometimes I add a little hot sauce to give it more kick.

In another example of the slight of hand in packaging, the V8 is in 11.5 oz cans (not 12 oz) !! Costco has had coupons giving a $3.00 discount on the case purchase. I like the smaller cans, as I can restrain my intake to one can...If I open a 46 oz can, I am more likely to drink more of it than 11.5 oz before I put it away. In fact It is real easy to knock down one of those big cans if you aren't careful !!

But, Al, at least it's healthier for us than a lot of stuff.

I like V-8 quite a bit, but the best tomato juice in the country is from right in your backyard -- good old Red Gold, and it's NOT from concentrate.

Al, I have finished off many a full bottle of either spicy or regular at one sitting, usually in front of the TV, watching football, eating a rare Roast Beef and Kosher Balogna sandwich!
