Burger Barn

Burger Barn is a little drive thru burger joint in Hawthorne Florida on US 301 and State Road 20. 
 

 
It's got a walk up window with a couple of picnic tables. And a small reasonably priced menu.

  
I got a super cheeseburger, which is 2 patties, lettuce, tomato, onion and jazzed up thousand island dressing on a toasted bun. 
The burgers are cooked on a flat top and are on the small side, but very good.
The fries are typical frozen fast food.  A good selection of crunchy well done and soft limp.


 
On my next visit, I got the fish, which as expected is a frozen filet.  It's average.  McDonald's is better.  This time all the fries were on the limp side, which is the way that I like them.
I also got a small Jamocha shake, which was very good.  A slight coffee and chocolate taste and very thick.




 
It's open 7 days a week from 10 am to 9 pm.  I reccommend it for a quick burger, Better than fast food joints.  A nice little independantly run business.
 
 

Passed by this place a few dozen times,but never stopped.Your pictures made me glad I didnt.Food just looks bland and not very tasty at all.Peace!

Nice find!   I would go there in a heartbeat.  I have never  beenthrough  an  independent drive-thru!

I would give the burger and shake a try. Probably pass on the fish and the fries definitely aren't done enough to suit me. I used to go out sr 20 through Hawthorne from Gainesville but not since the 70's

That thousand island dressing on burgers has always been a fave, First on Foster Freeze burgers growing up in California and later on Frishs Big Boy and gasp! the Big Mac.

I want to eat my computer screen looking at that food. Jamocha shakes, be still my pounding heart. Cheap, too.

some pictures of food do look awful. But I don't ever recall him saying something looked bland.

If food can't "look bland" in a picture, then, conversely, it can't "look tasty" either, right?  I think we all have seen a picture and said the food looked tasty.  In the instant case, I think the burger looks tasty, but agree the fries look pretty bland.

By the way, I was actually paying Greymo a compliment.  Ride in on your white horse some other time.

This was in the Daytona Beach News Journal on 07/06/10.
I know the writer is from Wilton,  Connecticut, because there are always references to Wilton Pizza and The big diner in Wilton (Orams?).  But I know there is no Burger Barn in the Wilton area.
Just thought this was funny.

a Supernatural burger is 3 burger patties.
I thought it might be an organic burger pattie or at the worst a veggie burger.
I should have asked before. I would have ordered that instead of a double.
MORE IS ALWAYS BETTER 99.2% of the time.

Sorry if I stepped on anyones toes.Just making an honest comment on how the food looked to me.We had a failed attempt at a Burger Barn here in Cowpens,S.C..It was actually a good burger.

I've been here many times, I use to live about 5 miles away on Bream Lake.  They started here in Gainesville and moved to Hawthorne.    It is good and beats anything else Hawthorne has to offer ie:  Sonny's.  Back when the "Fried Chicken Factory" was open, that was the place for breakfast and their chicken gizzards were very good if you like the type you don't have to chew on like bubblegum.  They pressure cooked them first then fried them.

stopped by Burger Barn about a month and a half ago on the way back from an appointment at Shands hospital in Gainsville.
The place is still the same. Still great burgers & fries. Same look, but the prices went up just a little bit.
