Charlotte to Myrtle Beach

Will be arriving in Charlottle by air and driving over to Myrtle Beach. We're Northeasterners and this will be our first trip driving through part of the south other than a few runs down 95 to Florida, but that doesn't really count. Looking to take in some of the sights and flavors of the South. Would be greatful for any suggestions on routes and food stops along the way. Favorites are local type places, nothing fancy though we're open to anything. We're kind of Diners, Dives, and Drive-In types. If its worth it will divert for food   Thanks in advance

Are you looking to make this a straight shot to MB, or just a lazy day trip ?
 

Take Highway 74 to Highway 601 at Monroe, NC.  Continue on Highway 601 to Pageland, SC.  Take Highway 151 S to Hartsville, SC.  Take Highway 15 S for 3 miles.  Take Highway 403 8 miles S to I 20 and go E to Florence.  Continue through Florence on Business 20 for 3 miles and take left on Highway 76. Go 16 miles to Highway 576. at Marion, SC  Go 6 miles to Highway 576 and then take Highway 501 after 3 miles.  Go SE on Highway 501 for 40 miles to MB.  Take the Northern route back to Charlotte, NC.  Take 501 NW 55 miles past Marion, SC to Highway 38 near Latta/Sellers.  Take Highway 38 for 30 miles to Highway 9 at Bennettsville, SC.  Take Highway 9 NW for 15 miles to Highway 52 at Cheraw, SC.  Go NW on Highway 52 to Wadesboro, NC and take Highway 74 to Charlotte, NC. 
 
I know this is country roads but it's as good a route as you can find.  If there's a better one I hope someone comes forward.  The roads in NC/SC are good roads.  The scenery is nice and you should enjoy your ride.

Ruths Drive In (Hartsville, SC) (honorable mention for a pimento cheeseburger in SC)
I loved the people who ran it and it was great roadfood.
Yogi Bear Honey Chicken (Hartsville, SC)
Technically have never been here, but everyone in the area says it is the best chicken................
Apple Annies Pub (Florence, SC)
Look for me at the bar around 5 pm. Great sandwiches and a good beer selection. Get the home chips instead of fries.
Rogers BBQ (Florence, SC)
Buffer style on 2nd loop road, there is too much good southern food to choose from, but I know they cook the pig themselves outback. Limited to Thurs-Sunday.
Angelos Seafood (Florence, SC)
On Highway 52 coming from Darlington to Florence after you pass under I95. Holy crap is their fried whiting good. This is all calabash (fried) southern style seafood.
Ohara's (Mullins, SC)
A friend had used this for his wedding reception, another buffet, but very quality food in a cool building.
 
I know you can only hit one of these, just wanted to give you options depending on what kind of food you wanted and what road you were on. I guess for a true southern expierience, I would do Rogers BBQ buffet if it is open.

Thank you for the responses. I am in Myrtle now. As it happens we ended up taking Littlemans northeern route here. We plan on taking the southern route back so we're doing it the opposite way. Planning on going to Rogers for lunch on the way back since its right on the way. BTW-went to the Chicken Coop in Charlotte when we arrived. It was great.

Go to Hoskin's for country food for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Little Pig has good BBQ.  River City is a casual family place for good burgers.  Roy and Sid's is great lunch place.  Sea Captain's has casual atmosphere and good food for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Go to Murrell's Inlet which is about 15 miles S of MB.  Go to Lee's Inlet Kitchen for good seafood, Nance's for great seafood, Prosser's for good BBQ joint, Russell's has great weekend brunch and Spud's is good food, view and music.

He's right about Murrell's Inlet--should go there for at least one meal.   The Sea Captain's House is pretty good.

Not Roadfood but the best food in MB area is at Frank's/Frank's Outback. Best hamburger, Hamburger Joe's. River City is a chain and has slipped of late, IMHO. Still have to go for onion rings but have been disappointed otherwise. Lot's of little breakfast places, we like Golden Griddle in NMB. I hear from the golfers that Crabcatcher's in NMB is good. I like King's Pizza in NMB, some don't but the Italian salad with the house dressing is worth the trip. Liberty Tap is good.
