Mild winter, glad or sad? Thu, 03/15/12 8:54 PM (permalink)
I'm glad, snow is good for my business, as we have a Ski Resort, a minor one, about 10 miles away. Fact is cold weather is expensive in the restaurant biz, in my location. Plowing, xtra propane, electricity, down days if too much snow, give me the mild winter we had, Bikers here in January, lower costs of operation, a pleasant feeling all around....Your thoughts?

I hate it when there's no snow. Give me below zero days and lots and lots of snow. An opening day of pheasant season without snow blowing in my face is no fun at all. And a gun-hunting season for deer without at least a foot of the white stuff is a terrible thing.

We had the Perfect Storm this Winter in the VOTS! Above average temps in the Valley and plenty of snow in the High Country so we'll have an ample water supply in the hot months!
The higher Elevations, ^7000 ft, are going to get up to 25-30 " of snow this weekend and it will be 80 degrees and spring training baseball in the VOTS!!!
This is the most beautiful state in the Union!

I have been in seventh heaven. The list of things I hate more than being cold is very, very short. The last couple of days of being 30 degrees warmer than is normal for this time of year is absolutely fine with me!

I bought snow tires for the first time in about 15 years, to deal with all the snow we get here. They worked great the 3 or 4 days they were actually useful. I'm so used to getting a lot of snow, it was definitely missed this year.

My neighbor kid made no money off of me this winter, there was never enough snow to bother shoveling. I am having a hard time dealing with all of my flowers coming up, trees budding and being 80 degrees and I know it's not even St Pat's Day yet! I can remember wicked snow storms on St Pat's in the past! I keep waiting for that one big whomp of snow to catch us off guard.

I'm sad.  Having spent many years in Alaska I love winter, snow and cold.  My favorite things were snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and getting up in the middle of the night to watch the Northern Lights.  Not this year.  Not in Ohio or PA.  It never got cold enough for me to wear my goose down parka!

The worst part of this miserable weather is my forsythia is blooming.

I just hope the warm winter is not a precursor of a very hot summer, with no spring in between.

It's 19 in Anchorage today and 6 in Nome, Alaska.  I may have to get on a plane to see winter this year.

Sure it's beautiful, but it's still winter, and I want snow. cold and ice. Later it'll be time for forsythia, and then I, too, wish it would stick around longer.

Yep, I've traveled all over NM and yes, it is a beautiful state too but it lacks a lot of the diversity of AZ. In AZ you can be in the wilderness or enjoy the advantages of a large metro area. The climate is a little more diverse than NM and besides all that, we have the toughest Sheriff in America! Not to mention a Governor who shakes her finger at the President of the United States for not taking care of our Borders.

When I lived in New England, I liked the cold winter, because i liked skiing.  Now living in the Wash, DC suburbs, the snow and sleet is just a nuisance.  There is nothing useful to do with snow around here, like skiing.    So, I'm glad to see above normal winter.  I like below normal summers.

I love lots of snow during winter but once pitchers and catchers report to training camp it's time for it all to melt away.

The temperature hit 81 degrees here yesterday and that bested the earliest recorded statewide date for an 80-plus reading by 2 full weeks.  There's a slough about a quarter mile behind my house and tonight the peepers are making lots of noise...just unheard of for March 16.

May you sleep tonight, and all  nights in the future, easy in to your slumber,  peacefully , may the Lord bring you great dreams, bring you peace and confidence, and soon may some of those dreams become reality.

Being a Californian by heritage, I like the mild winters...Although on the High Desert where we spent our last 15 years when living in SoCal, we had at least one snow day out of school each year....Anyway This 'warm' winter and what looks like a very early Spring has saved us a chunk of budget money in fuel/heat costs. We use LP gas for heat, cooking, and Hot Water....Having a shower-crazy grandson in the house hase added a lot to the hot water use, but keeping the furnace down to 60 or below has really cut into the usual winter costs.

On the other hand, two 'seasons' ago I bought a LARGE snow blower. Except for one test run for a 4 " snowfall last year, it has sat idle in the garage since !!

One of our warmest winters on record.  Saved quite a bit on utility bills, however my lawn guy has destroyed the difference as my grass grows a inch a day.  Everything is blooming:  forsythia, double blooming cherries, daffodils and tons of other things.

It has rained almost every day this week with more today and tomorrow with temps between 75F-82F.

It will supposedly hit 82F today in the Twin Cities. We've had record temps all week long and there seems no let up. I had thought about going south in our RV this past winter but didn't and kind of glad I didn't now.

We've had little snow all year and not enough at any one time to snowshoe. Also, the other debit was my Maple sugaring effort was wiped out this year. I didn't tap any trees. Here's a hint. If you like pure Maple syrup stock up now before a major price increase that is sure to come.

I'm glad for the mild winter - but I don't remember it being so warm in March.  - temps all week are averaging 79-82, and overnight about 65-70.  My neighbors are buying tomato plants, and I'm thinking we still may get a front in the next couple of weeks.

Definitely sad.  If temps were in the normal range, I never would have seen this on St. Patty's day.

Been around 80 the last few days here in Chicagoland, all kinds of vegetation in bloom, exploding! Worst part is that the allergies are going nuts way too soon. Happily I haven't seen any scooter riders like above!
