How do your sales break down?

Strange question I know but it's interesting none-the-less. I'm wondering for those of you that offer a meal deal, like a bag of chips plus can of pop for $1/$1.50 etc. more, what would you say the percentage is of your sales where they pay the upgrade and get the meal as opposed to those that just get the dog?

Hi DJ...i would say about 60-70% of the time we sell the combo meal. We sell a dog anyway you want it for $2, hot dog chips and a drink is $3.50 so its a no Brainer for most people to get the deal...we sell alot of the meals

Depends on the venue....Street corner buyer may want it all. Festival folk may just want a Dog to fill a gut. May have lemonade somewhere else.. I think the thing to do is CONVINCE them they need it all. Why stand in another line? RJT will tell you about Lemonade...... But I do think you have to discount some to make it a "Meal Deal" And then push it, if it helps yer bottom line. Chips and Soda are cheap.....

Cool...thanks guys. I should've pointed out that this would be under the umbrella of street corner sales...non festival. My bad....I heard from someone else that it was about 50% for him so it looks like 50%-70% of the time they do the meal. I would think it would be higher...weird. I know I'll be able to push it pretty good. I was thinking of doing soda (brand name, not the odd ball stuff from Mega Lo Mart...ha ha) and the smaller bag of chips...it's like a mini bag - I've seen quite a few hot doggers around here sell those - but do that extra upgrade for a buck.

Been forever since I posted. Chips and soda come with everything I offer. 1 dog, 2 or 3. Pulled pork, meatball, chicken parm, ham and cheese. I recently expanded my menu beyond dogs...only took a year :) Best deal, best food. Exit 12 off the NYS thruway (North), can't miss me.

I know I'm late chiming in, meals make up roughly 90% of my sales, to be more spcific, 90% of my meal sales are 2 dogs, 1 bag of chips & 1 can of soda or water for $5.00. Most see it as a screaming deal. I will be raising the price of the 'double dog meal' to $6.00 at my newest location since it is about 200 yards from a Sonic. They charge $6.49 + tax for their 2 dog meal. They offer a medium fries/tater tots & medium drink, but my dogs are much better tasting(per my regulars).

I charge the following Hot Dog: $2.75 (anyway they want it) Chips: $1.00 Drinks: $1.00 Hot Dog Chips and Drink Combo : $4.00 2 Hot Dog Chips and Drink Combo: $6.00 Fresh Squeezed Lemonade: $3.00 or $4.00 for flavor added (ie cherry, strawberry, rasberry) Most go with a combo but some dont even though they should. I price so it forces most to spend more. I dont show on my menu where you can sub for a lemonade on the combo but I allow it and they pay an extra $2.00 and no can drink.

As a consumer, I would prefer a price that includes 1 or 2 dogs and a soda. Forget the chips. I find at most carts a dog and a soda costs more than a combo with chips. That gets my goat.
