The Original, James Beard Award winning, Fry Bread House on 7th Av and Indian School, Rd now has a Second Location.
1916 West Baseline Road  Mesa, AZ.
It's at the NE corner of Dobson & Baseline in a strip center.
I ate there today.
The menu and the food is exactly the same as at the original location.
The facility is a little larger and seats more people.
I had the Red Chile Stew and a round of Fry Bread.
If I closed my eyes, I'd think I was eating at the 7th AV location.
The Stew uses New Mexico Red Chiles and was loaded with lean, well cooked, tender beef and the sauce has a very nice flavor and a little kick to it.
The fry bread floated on air!
For all those in the East Valley, this is a nice convenient location.
Easy to get to and no hassles finding parking.
AND oh yes, 2 members of the Hohokam O'odham tribe were out front selling their authentic, handcrafted jewelry.
The Fry Bread Houses, 1 & 2, are owned and operated by members of the Hohokam O'odham tribe.
This location, while lacking some of the charm of the original, is very convenient to Sky Harbor Airport, (About 15 minutes away) if you're flying in or out and need a quick bite.

    We were just in Arizona over memorial Day weekend.  As soon as we landed and got our car rental, we headed straight for the original location of Fry Bread House in Phoenix.  They were closing at 7:00PM for the weekend and we managed to get there with very little time to spare, arriving at 6:53.  They flipped the open sign to closed just a minute or two later.
     
    Is the Mesa location closer to the airport?  Had we known, we may have headed for that one instead.
     
    BTW, all the food was very good, especially the hominy stew, which was my girlfriend's favorite thing to eat the trip.

      Yep, it's closer to the Airport and easier to get to. Fewer city streets & stoplights.
      About 15 minutes from the Airport.
      I believe their hours are the same as the original place. Both are Closed on Sunday.
      It doesn't have the "Old House" Vibe that the Original has but the food & the menu are exactly the same including the Hominy Stew!
      Since younz Yinzers recommend it, that's what I'm having next time I go there!!! (With Fry Bread of course!)

        I did get a few spoonfulls of the hominy stew and I admittedly plead 100% guilty of having a yinzer palate.  But my SO, who called it the best thing she ate during her time in AZ, had her taste buds developed in Bayawan.  She also loved the menudo from Teresa's Mosaic Cafe in Tucson, which I wanted no part of!
         
        Thanks for making me aware of the second location.  Next time we land, I will head straight there instead.

            My DNA definitely says "Da Burgh" but my palate could be Bayawan! Since I like Grits and Hominy is Grits on Steroids, and I like spicy stuff, I'm going to give it a try. You will, however, Never catch me with a bowl of Menudo sitting in front of me!

                          There is another fry bread option in Phoenix way out on the Westside (or is that West-end in Yinzerese?).  Arizona Frybread opened on Dysart Road in the location formerly occupied by Fritzi's Heart & Soul BBQ.  I'll be sure to give them a try soon and provide a comparison to Fry Bread House's fare.

                            Good question!  We were wondering the same thing.  I have only had posole one time before (in Santa Fe), so I'm probably not the one to answer this.  If they aren't the same thing, they are remarkably similar.  Does anyone know?

                            Technically, Hominy is dried maize kernels which have been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization.
                            Hominy is then used to make Pozole which can contain a variety of ingredients - pork, beef, chicken, veggies but almost always includes Hominy. So, Hominy Stew and Pozole are one in the same. Fry Bread House's recipe includes select corn hominy cooked with tender chunks of beef, onions and spices in a seasoned broth.

                                        I ate at Arizona Frybread tonight and ordered a sampler with four taco sized frybreads.  Clockwise from upper left - bean & cheese, green chile, red chile, and Frybread Arizona (beans, cheese, ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream). The filling were all very good, but...
                                         
                                        The frybread seemed much heavier than that at Fry Bread House, it just didn't have that airy texture and had more of an oily flavor.  The texture might be because of the smaller size breads.  I'll being returning to Fry Bread House to continue my comparison.

                                          They don't look quite as "Puffy" as ones I've had. The dough could have been sitting a while or maybe the oil wasn't hot enough. But they look OK. They'll vary a little bit from batch to batch.

                                            Thanks for the photo JRPfeff!  I agree with Foodbme that those don't look at puffy, but I would stillbe very happy to have that plate set down in front of me.  Which of the fillings did you like best?  I am eyeing up that green chile one!

                                              bb - My first choice would be the Green Chile, followed closely by the Arizona.  However, they had really good bottled homemade hot sauce and I drowned all of them with that.

                                                On my way from Sedona to Phoenix last year I was told a great place for fry bread was at the road going to the large Indian casino halfway between both places. We found the exit and the first vendor and had excellent fry bread with beans and Navajo tacos made as we watched with beans, tomato and cheese. Went to a vender 1/2 block away next. Fry bread with honey and one dusted with cinnamon and sugar. Also a mystery one, sweet and good. Well worth the stop. 
                                                 
                                                Wandering Jew, If you can't "stomach" the menudo, try posole. Same basic broth and elements, just with pork shoulder instead of offal. I think you might like it.
