I'm gonna guess by the lack of responses, an August meet-up in Detroit isn't going to happen. I need to submit an August availability schedule for work, no later than Sunday. I'll hold out hope until then, but after that, I'm out for next month. We can try again in September. Buddy

I've been wanting to visit Detroit and do a tour there for quite a while now, but the plans never coalesce and time has become more scarce. If there's a meet-up in late August there's a slight chance I can go, but it's unlikely. Otherwise I'll probably have to wait until next summer.

We stopped in Dearborn on the way back home to sample the famous burger at Miller's Bar. Let me tell you it's everything it promised. One of the best examples of the Classic American Cheeseburger I've had. Top 2 in the US that I'd have say. http://www.millersbar.com/ DT

Since Detroit is such an easy drive from home, I have been keeping an eye on this thread to see if something came of it. I would be interested in taking part in a tour, if a local organized it. Davwud- Glad you got Miller's Bar and enjoyed it as much as you did. That is one terrific burger! I have a salesman who calls on me and he lives ten minutes from Miller's and doesn't like the place. Luckily, he is a better sales rep than burger critic.

Welcome to Roadfood urbanfoodie84, and thanks for your kind offer! I think August is off the table, but sometime later in the year, perhaps September/October could work. If you really want to make this happen, I think the first step is to float some potential dates and see who responds. Once you've settled on a date, pick a bunch of places you'd like the group to visit and get some feedback on that. Also, be willing to consider suggestions from other people in the group. If you're serious about setting this up, I'd be glad to offer advice and assistance. Buddy

I'm up for this if it happens in September. Any weekend after Labor Day works. I can take a few Contingent members in my car if anyone else is interested.

quijote, We seem to have a lack of leaders on this one. I'd be happy to do it, but I don't want to step on the toes of any local Detroiters who might be better qualified than me to set things up. When would we do this? We've already got the Chicago tour set for September, and a Milwaukee tour in the works for October. What's the weather like in Detroit in November? Gotta be similar to Chicago and Milwaukee, right? Maybe a Doodle Survey is in order. It helped in setting the Chicago date, and it looks like it's quickly narrowing things down for the Milwaukee date. Those sandwiches look pretty darned good, although I wouldn't want to base a tour on an all sandwich menu. Buddy

The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn is on my bucket list. I would love to make this a long weekend, take the ferry across the lake, meet up with roadfooders on whatever day that is, visit the museum another day, and just herp derp around exploring for a few days. Maybe next year something will come of this.

For me, it's looking like a fall trip to Detroit will be out of the picture, but I'm hoping to make a spring visit--particularly if I can tie it in with my anticipated car trip to Buffalo during spring break.

A Detroit food tour sounds good to me, but I don't think I'd be able to attend one before mid-to-late April. I'm moving back to Chicagoland at the end of March, and since 250-mile moves don't come cheap, every available buck will be going into the moving van fund for the next seven months.

Davwud That should read Lafayette AND American Coney Island. Not OR. I agree. I'd visit Detroit just for the Coney Islands! wheregreggeats.com I have fond memories of Tunnel BBQ ... nice to be RE-minded. I have fond memories of the Tunnel BBQ as well, but not of the ribs with which I've been disappointed every time.

Count me in as long as there's ample notice (45-60 days in advance). Buddy

Detroit is only 4 1/2 hours for us, so it is a possibility we may join in also, if it works with our schedule. Like kaszeta, we are also fans of the Motor City!
