Spring 2013 Tour in Milwaukee

I know...I know...I KNOW!! Stop laughing. I just think since we already have some things picked out, we should just start planning the next tour.
 
CSD is right. We DO go to Chicago all the time. I find nothing wrong with this. Personally I love Chicago and would move there if I won the lottery and would weigh 800 pounds from all the good food they have there.
 
We have good food here, too. And what's more, WE MAKE BEERS HERE!!! Yes, you can't smell it driving on the M-Change anymore, but those memories from being a kid driving through Milwaukee are memories they can't take away from me, no matter how beautiful Marquette's new law school is. (same nabe)
 
The hardest part is picking a date. We are a busy Contingent, trying to find a date that accommodates all of us will be difficult, but I'm willing to try.
 
Please pick out the dates that work for you. If it turns out to be as mild a winter as they are saying, we could add March dates as well. (Easter is March 31, Passover falls on the same weekend, and I took Mother's Day out of the running.)

Bar Louie is a chain with almost 50 locations nationwide, and a couple of years ago I had a burger at their Schererville IN outlet. Just awful. A better name for this outfit would be Bar Phooey.

Hybrid is a gay bar on Brady that only serves drinks. 
  
G-Daddy's BBC is a basic North Avenue watering hole mostly patronized by college kids. We have better options to pick from.
 
I'm pretty sure the Nomad and Wolski's don't serve food, or if they do it's microwaved pizza and such.
 
Never been to Karma, but Wicked Hop is okay (the food is fine, not great) and the Brat Haus is pretty good: they have a good variety of Usinger's sausages. They used to have Currywurst on the menu, but it seems to have disappeared!  
 
Balzac is a rather nice wine bar with reasonably good food. Brocach is also a good option--the upstairs has a good amount of seating and the food is fine. Some specialties include shepherd's pie, scotch eggs, and things like that.
I haven't been to Stubby's yet, but I think other RFers have and enjoyed it. It's on the river, so if it's a nice day we can sit outside and take it in.
 
With all of these options, no need to bother with Bar Louie. The one in Glendale isn't a bad place to get a drink and basic apps, but the Milwaukee (Water Street) location is kinda scuzzy and often packed with noisy college students.

Pie Diva & I just realized that we've never been to Speed Queen.  Another one for consideration.

Best bbq in town! Problem is, there is absolutely no where around to eat it, and the area is not good to dine ala trunk...

Speed Queen has tables for in-house dining.  Not the best neighborhood, but as long as we don't all walk in wearing the same color jackets and making weird hand gestures, we should be alright.
 
And yes, it is the best 'Que in Milwaukee.  Seriously, you've never been?

I'm of the opinion that there can be no one best pizza but there sure are many great pizzas. Named after the municipal yard where the electric buses transfered and were repaired, Transfer Pizza has enough varieties that even committed tavern pizza, stuffed pizza, cracker crust pizza, Siciilain crust pizza, and Neopolitan pizza lovers might find a new pizza that they will crave. We ate there, what, 3 years ago? Gyp, MFL, maybe some others. It was a Saturday & yes they have indoor seating. Not the best neighborhood is a good description.

Is there perhaps a different hot dog place worth investigating?  I thought Dr. Dawg was fine but I wouldn't mind trying something new.

Hi all. I would love to join in but over the last year, my MS has gotten worse and I am now ensconced in a mobility scooter. I would love to go to an event but only if 2 or 3 places were close. Presently my partner has to take apart my scooter (5 pieces), put is our SUV and then put it back together. Don't want to do that too may times!

I didn't even have a hot dog there, the burger was amazing. But yes, I don't see why not.

 
@kland, we would love to have you! The only non-negotiable so far is the Lakefront Brewery Tour. Now that I know about your scooter, I can call ahead & see which restaurant is the most ADA-friendly. (My mom has MS, she is on Avonex) We also have the option of card tables & cutting boards, so we can dine anywhere, really.

If you want a restaurant hot dog, go to Illinois.  Wisconsinites only cook hot dogs at home, camping, picnics and tailgates (mainly for their children, adults prefer brats).  
 
What is the point of going for Chicago food on a Milwaukee food tour?  Two tours in a row, no less.

How about this kland, and I say this sincerely without any snark at all, why don't you put together a tour of worthwhile places out your way and we'll come to you.  You'd be in control of the number of stops and the convenience level based on your needs.
 
Some folks might not think it's worth driving out to the Fox River Valley for just two or three places, so maybe you could create a bigger list.  The full group could hit all the stops and you would only participate in the ones you feel are most worthy.
 
The Contingent welcomes all Roadfooders and we do what we can to accommodate members with special physical needs.  So far though, you're the only one who lives out in the valley, so you'll need to meet us halfway by telling us where to go once we get there.

Is there some special draw to Red Dot?  A quick look at their menu shows a good, but fairly "normal" menu, not unlike most high-end sports bars.  Nothing wrong with that, but is there something special about Red Dot we're not aware of?
  EDIT:Just went  back through the thread and saw MFL's note about Poutine at Red Dot.  Never mind...

In 2006, seven years ago, we took the Cheesehead in Beer Town Tour in Milwaukee. Too many places, too much food, too much driving, too long a day. Let's sit, eat, and schmooze, instead of the traditional eat and run and eat and run. My suggestions are:
1. Zaffiro's Pizza-Opens 11 am
2. Lakefront Brewery-Opens 10am with tours every 25 minutes until 3pm
3. Jake's Deli-Closes at 7pm
4. Kopp's
Pizza, Beer, Corned Beef, and Custard. The only thing missing are brats. Mike Loew, where in town can we get a good brat, besides your house? Aimee, if you desire a Green River, Dr. Dawg will have their new location in operation across the street from Kopp's by the tour.

I personally think Zaffiro's reputation has been fostered by our friends south of the state line but the pizza is ok enough. The Lakefront tour is great, one of my favorite things to do in Milwaukee but the Milwaukee Brewing Company tour is similar and can be a fall back option if desired. I know that Jake's will close as early as 3 if the meat is gone so keep that in mind. We have a Contingent member that thinks the corned beef tastes best while wearing jammies. Kopps is Kopps and always a very good stop. I go to Sheboygan to eat cooked brats so I'd love to try the Milwaukee Brat House and as always, a stop at the seconds counter at Usingers, a Spice House visit and a look at the armor upstairs at Maders are nearby options. The Wisconsin Cheese Mart next door has a larger selection but prices aren't very good.

That would be a great idea but I have the same problem here. I have a great Israeli place in Naperville, a Mexican place in Geneva, an Italian place in Batavia, a Thai place in Batavia, a Himalayan place in St Charles. I could put together a great list but each is miles apart and require set up and take down of the scooter. I just hate putting my partner through that!  

These are just suggestions at this point, nothing is in stone. But I would like to thank you all for ignoring the most important thing I have asked thus far:
