In LA, you have to drive an hour or more to go anywhere don't you?

Forty-five minutes is my standard drive time.

Maybe I should make that drive.

Problem is it's around the corner from Knott's Berry Farm.

Foodbme.....Portillo's is one of the best Fast Food Chicago style joints I've been in. The beefs are very good for a chain, and the Chicago Dogs are also very good......it's without a doubt worth a stop.

                Well, They're here!
They opened about 2 weeks ago at 90th St & Shea Blvd in Scottsdale.
There's a second one planned in the Tempe Marketplace, at McClintock & Rio Salado, near ASU in a few months..
Went to the one in Scottsdale today, around 3 PM, thinking it would be a slow time to go to see what all the hype is about.
                WHAT A ZOO!!!!!
There must have been 500-600 people there! Lined up out the door. They even brought in tented walkways to shade people and keep them out of the rain. They had set up extra 8' folding tables & chairs in every open spot they could find. Extra staff all over the place from other stores back East. There were at least 50 people on the line crankin' out the food!
Took me 25 minutes to get from the parking lot to a place where someone took my order on the back of a bag and handed it to me. Another 10 minutes to get close to the register to pay. I looked down the line and there were at least 75-100 people standing there waiting for their orders.
                At that point I BAILED!
I knew if I plunked my money down, then I was due to spend at least another 45 minutes to an hour waiting for my food.
I'll come back in a year or 2 when things settle down!

Better beef sandwiches and hot dogs at Al's in Scottsdale...and the local owners are terrific.

Portillos is just ok. Just another chain, nothing to be excited about. Unless Burger King's burgers and shakes excite you and OreIda crinkle cut fries are what you desire.  Then Portillos is the place to go! Not sure why people flock there. I'm pretty sure any local burger/hot dog joint could beat Portillos. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

Totally disagree. I have said here before, I have been going to Portillo's since Dick opened his original shop in the 1960's. It is not your average chain. Quality and service is top notch and their drive up at lunch works incredibly fast and smooth. I have been to a Portillo's all across the Chicago area, I have Portillo's served in a work setting with over 100 people being served and I have had Portillo's that had been mail ordered and there has been no difference in taste with their Italian beefs. They are the best. I will say I have never had a hot dog there, hate hot dogs in any shape or form. They do have great char broiled burgers and my veggie partner loves their salads and a grilled veggie sandwich. Portillo's varies and some do ribs and some do Italian but they all have the basic original menu. We love going to Luigis' in Naperville. We have a Portillo's Honey Jam cafe here too. Don't ever compare Portillos to any low life chain.

If things have quieted down, give them a try. Italian beef with both sweet and hot peppers---yum! They usually are quite fast.
