I know San Diego very very well but I've never lived there. I know SD well because I travel through like six times a year. I've been to over 100 highly recommended places and am very confident to advise The California Burrito at, 'Super Sergio's' the location is a dive but don't let that stop you. Don't forget to ask for the red sauce in the bottle to go with your food. Have a fun & safe trip :)

If La Jolla is included, I would go to The Cottage for breakfast or lunch.

Hob Nob hill has the best waitresses i have ever encountered and great coffee shop food. El Indio has very good tortillas and Mexican food. i concur with Michael about the Cottage. Granola and fruit waffles, fish tacos and inspired California cuisine make the Cottage my favorite place in San diego.

I do agree about the waitresses at Hob Nob Hill, and about the food, which is the best example I've ever found of California Coffee Shop Cuisine.

A couple more posts or so and this "Michael Stern" fellow, whoever he is, will have a thousand posts and really stand out as a roadfood contributor. and he'll become a "Double Chili Cheeseburger" On the other hand, it seems a bit suspicious that he knows so much about San Diego despite living on almost the exact opposite side of the country. Mods, you might want to watch this guy, I think he's trouble

I think Bill likes the Shack/Dive sort of place. I'd go just for the bottled red sauce. I do NOT recommend the Roadfood favorite Hodad's in Ocean Beach. They have the BEST choclate malt I've ever ordered.... problem was that they took it away before I even drank/ate it. I was saving it for last! I found their burgers to be just okay, nothing special. I also love The Cottage in La Jolla.

Hob Nob Hill would absolutely be my choice. Breakfast is my usual meal there, but two years ago we had an excellent Thanksgiving Dinner.

I get them from here....... I can walk there from the house! I always get mine with shredded cheese! Have you ever noticed that almost all of the "fast food" Mexican places end in "berto's" Albertos, Aldibertos, Robertos, Roybertos etc etc!

The Cottage on New Years day for b/fast...............GOOD LUCK on that one! You would be better off going to the Broken Yolk in Pacific Beach............IF you can even get in there! On any given Saturday or Sunday the line to get in is a block long! Much better food tho then the Cottage!
