That's my favorite ketchup. I have always stuck with Heinz but the only thing I use ketchup on is pork sausage or to mix with mayo and horseradish for a sauce.

I very much like ketchup on scrambled eggs/omelets and potatoes. And considering where I am from, you know Heinz is #1. Or is it #57?

I'm having flashbacks of like 8 years ago. Wasn't there a monster thread about this and some running joke about mixing del monte ketchup and something else. Forum memories!

Thanks, 6star. Brooks was my favorite growing up in the center of the country, but Oregon is a whole different world.

I use catsup for just two things. I add it to corned beef hash and mix it with horseradish to make a dipping sauce for shrimp steamed in beer. All catsup tastes the same to me.

If I'm buying it for home, it's Hunt's with no HFCS. Otherwise, I haven't really given much though to it.

I have to agree with the Serious Eats crew. I've used Heinz Organic since it came out and the taste just flat out blows away the competition. It tastes the way ketchup is supposed to taste. I also keep bigger bottles of Simply Heinz on hand, too. They left this one out of their test, sadly. It's a close second to the Organic and is sweetened with sugar and doesn't have a lot in it. Just the things you'd expect in a ketchup called Simply Heinz.

I don't use a lot of the stuff. Not even on fries. On a burger sometimes. When I do, the local stuff. Red Gold. All of their products are top notch.

Heintz, I buy the smallest botle I can find, and it lasts me a long time. Sometimes I'll cook a hamburger patty and make a dipping sauce for it by mixing thick Lea and Perrins and Heintz.

I don't know who started this Damn Balsamic Vinegar craze, but putting Balsamic Vinegar in Ketchup is just WRONG! Bad enough screwing up good olive oil with the wretched stuff but doing it to Ketchup is a sin IMHO!

Heinz has a great history and reputation. Many fast food chains and independent restaurants use Heinz. It's my top choice of ketchup and I started using the Organic Heinz the day it hit the shelves. While those of us from Chicago profess to never apply ketchup on a hot dog, most will confess they use Heinz on burgers, fries, and any other food than necessitates ketchup. CSD

Good Lord! If ever there was a "settled matter" this is it. Thank you Henry John Heinz! (BTW: adulterated with balsamic vinegar, it is great with crispy tater tots).

Haven't bought ketchup in 12+ years, but if I was to, guess it would come down to sugar based (hunts) vs. corn syrup (Heinz). Ever notice how Heinz avoids listing corn syrup as the primary ingredient by listing corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup as two separate ingredients? To me, ketchup is simply sugar (liquid candy having 24% sugar) with salt, a small amount of vinegar and some red coloring.

Heinz......nothing else, my mayo has to be Best Foods. Why settle for less? Btw.... Heinz mustard is preferred also, just a bit more twang to it.

Never thought about doing that, though I've mixed ketchup and A-1 and found it pretty good. I'll have to try the worcestershire though.

I hadn't actually read the SE article. Those might be national brands but several are scarce in in the PNW. I have to add Tabasco or some hot sauce to catsup, too sweet otherwise, with not enough kick.

I make the Heinz clone from top secret recipes. It's really good. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did a taste test a few years ago, and Hunt's came out on top. I hardly ever use ketchup though. Fries, potato chips and campfire hot dogs occasionally.

I like the ketchup served @ The Wiener and Still Champion, in Evanston, IL best of all. I have a bottle of Heinz in my fridge for visitors who eat ketchup. I have to be in the mood for it, and it has to be cold.
