Any Rose Petal Baking Recipe? Wed, 11/7/12 10:06 PM (permalink)
While I took a vacation in Thailand last week, a local gave to me this edible dried rose petals, they say it’s good for holiday recipes. I was thinking of saving this one for Christmas but I guess that would still be a long month to go, so I just have to prepare this one then for my little girl’s birthday this Sunday.
I just need to ask if you’ve got any cool baking recipes for this one and I’m planning to make an iced rose tea as its partner.
Thanks!

I'm a rose flavor freak! I love rose flavor fondant chocolates with the small piece of candied rose on top, rose flavored jams or jelly and, rose syrup which can be bought at stores selling Middle Eastern foods.

I'm not a baker but if I were you, I'd just Google for a recipe if nobody can provide some here. Good luck. And, please save a piece for me!

I'm also a nut for Violet flavored sweet foods.

I'm with Twinwillow.  Love rose flavor almost as much as I love violet.

I bet you could infuse vanilla ice cream with rose flavor.  The Persians eat rose ice cream.

Mar, I've mixed in a little rose flower extract (just a tiny amount is all thats needed) with vanilla ice cream and, its great! Not all of my friends like it though. Its one of those flavors you either love or, hate.

We have a small, Dallas based chain of gelato stores in Dallas that sell both rose and violet gelato. They alternate the flavors weekly. I love the violet flavor the best!

Mar, according to their website, they have one in Hermosa Beach and, Thousand Oaks. I'd imagine the Hermosa Beach location would be closest to you.

Thanks, Twinwillow.  I didn't look at your link because I'm not a fan of gelato.

Maybe I'll have to give them a chance as Hermosa Beach isn't far, at all.

Maybe first I'll check out the gelato place that newly opened at the end of my street.  I could walk but...

I like rose-flavored rice pudding.  Panna cotta imbued with the roses would be a delicious treat, I think.  There are also Indian-inspired rose-flavored desserts you might consider.  Another one that comes to mind is an Arab/Middle Eastern confection called Ataif/atayif (katayef)  ~ small crepes/blintzes filled with cream, custard or a ricotta-like filling then drizzled with rose syrup and sprinkled with chopped pistachios.

Rose & Cranberry Cookies from meringuedesserts dot com

Recipe below makes about 20 cookies

                  50g icing sugar
                  100g butter
                  1/4 tsp salt
                  180g all-purpose flour
                  1/4 tsp baking soda
                  1 cup dried rose petals
                  1/4 tsp rose essence
                  1/3 cup dried cranberries
                  approximately 1 tbsp cold water

Sift flour and baking soda together.  Soak rose petals in cold water to soften.  Cream together icing sugar, butter and salt.  Drain rose petals, keeping the water aside.  Add flour mixture, rose petals and essence into butter mixture.  Mix in the added ingredients, adding cold water a little at a time till dough starts to cling together to form a ball (you don't have to finish using the entire 1 tbsp of cold water.  Add cranberries towards the end when dough starts to come together. Roll dough between baking paper till its 0.5cm thick.  Chill for 20 minutes before cutting into rectangular or square pieces.  Bake in 165C preheated oven for 20 minutes, followed by 155C for another 10 minutes, till cookies are brown.

Looks like a great cookie recipe. If I was a baker, I'd make them. I'd rather eat them, though!
