Nitty Gritty owner Marsh Shapiro passes

Local Madison, WI legend Marsh Shapiro died this morning. The Nitty Gritty has been a landmark for almost 45 years and he left a large footprint on Madison; he will be greatly missed.

Despite growing up and going to college in Madison, I don't think I ever set foot in the Nitty Gritty, but I was on the Marshall the Marshall show with my Cub Scout den. I have a memory of Shapiro making snide remarks at his studio audience between the on-air segments.
