The "Favorite State" Poll Sun, 01/20/13 4:27 PM (permalink)
I'm glad to see that at least the field is beating the dreaded Connecticut.
Since about 99 44/100% of this website is about The Evil Empire, I consider this a moral victory for those of us in the Rest of the World.

I live in Illinois which has a fantastic diverse variety of places to eat but I voted for New Mexico because 35 years ago when I first traveled there, it was such an interesting and different cuisine that I was used to. I'm not talking a burger from Bobcat Bite which I have never had and don't care to, I can get plenty of burgers here and other places similar,  but true New Mexican food. Posole from a little roadside place in Corrales that had horses tied up on a post out front and all locales inside. Little places in Cerrillos with a dirt street out front and Tesuque when the market there was a post office, a tiny restaurant, tiny store and it was the town center. That was interesting and unique food and worth traveling to. That's the reason for traveling, to see and eat something different.

I've been from Maine to Alaska and just about every state inbetween.  I like Louisiana because of it's diversity in food.  Creole and Cajun and a lot more.  Great seafood and meat pies.  Our dear friend Rick Flynn once sent me meat pies from Lasyone's in Natichoches.  Such a treat.

If I remember correctly, we had a thread on this subject around five years ago, but couldn't find it.  My vote would be for New Mexico #1, with Tennessee, Wisconsin, Mississippi and Texas among my other favorites.

Do you really think that this site is that slanted towards Connecticut?

Well, it was said in jest, but yes. New England and Connecticut especially, seem to dominate this website, probably because that's where the powers that be  tend to hang out and the region they call home.
I notice Texas has swung into the lead in the poll also.
Not sure if this is Chicago style voting or what, but interesting, at least.

I've done my fair share of traveling. No where near as much as some of you guys.Loved the Southwest area. Texas was cool, the grandkids loved having gravy with their fries. Louisiana was awesome, lived in Florida for awhile, great food all over.

I have not visited Connecticut in my road food days and I do hope to. I live in an exceptional food city but  have loved the tucson area for its variety of excellent places and the Austin, texas  area as another place wtha a wide variety of sensational food.

Even though I lived in Boston for many years I only drove through CT on the way to PA.  Am looking forward to a trip there this summer.
