Got any interesting places to share in Philadelphia that are kind of unique or quirky?

I might just eat at my friends hot dog place, unless I find something else interesting.

There's a Mexican place that makes tortillas on a conveyor belt or something, but I've no idea where that is.

I'm heading there with a few friends to visit some places.. South 9th Street area, South Street, Eastern State Penitentary wherever that is, and on my way home to Netcoast Russian store.

Look on here for lots of Philly info, but a must is the Reading Terminal.  Depending on where on South St. the Italian Market is also wonderful.

My sister has been RAVING about Federal Donuts which has two locations in Center City and South Philly. They only sell three items-donuts, fried chicken and coffee. They cook in small batches, and when they are sold out, they close the doors.  She loves the French Toast donuts and the fried chicken.

        Their menu is online at

I don't know if you guys have been there, but a LOT of people rave about the place that makes tortilla on a conveyor belt. All they make are tortillas, chips, and fresh salsa. For like $2 or $3 you get like 50 or 100 tortillas.. well a huge stack. For like $3 you get a huge bag of chips and salsa. When you walk in they give you a warm tortilla to try and salsa.

Late on the reply but Philly is crawling with a foodie scene.  Reading Terminal of course is always a good stop, it's back in trend.  Food trucks are out terminal in.

One unique restaurant is Lolita (Market East).  It's byo-tequila mexican place.  Patio/sidewalk dining.  Great vibe.  It's next to a good throw back cocktail bar.

I'm with you on the Reading Terminal. Try one of those pork sandwiches.

Eastern Penetentiary is in the Art Museum area, out the Ben Franklin parkway away from Center City.  However, there is a good restaurant called "Jack's Firehouse" across the street from it.  They have a website.  It is in an old firehouse.

And of course, you must get a cheese steak while you are here.  Jiim's Steaks on South Street is good, but there are probably some good ones in Reading Terminal Market as well.

In old town: Franklin Fountain for ice cream, National Mechanics and Campos Deli. There is also a restaurant called City Tavern that serves historical recipes in a ye olde theme.
