I finally got to this well-loved San Francisco breakfast and lunch place, and thought it was worth the hype. I'm not a fan of having to wait in a line for a close to an hour, but breakfast was indeed delicious. http://www.roadfood.com/R...s-on-washington-square
We started with the chocolate crumb cake, which looked good enough from the ordering counter, but when they brought it to the table it was warmed up and had chocolate sauce on it. It was tender and tasty.
Additional items we ordered included the French toast sampler: one slice of orange-cranberry, one of cinnamon, and one of banana bread. If you ask for real maple syrup they'll bring you a little pitcher.
They have several other great sounding French toasts available, including one made with kugelhopf, and a chocolate cinnamon French toast. Those don't come with the sampler, though--you can't just pick which ones you get with the sampler.
The following is one of their house specialties, called Pan Dore. It's sliced, lightly cooked apples in a lemon butter sauce served over thin pieces of sourdough French toast. I adored this dish and have never seen it anywhere else.
Sorry for the blurry picture, but these blueberry pancakes were light and fluffy, and with house-made blackberry jam were delightful.
Just to balance out the carbs, we ordered a savory item: the vegetarian Benedict. Not being a fan of poached eggs, I didn't try those.
All in all, it was a very fun time once we got in the door. I really dislike waiting in a line, so am not sure I'd return; however, it's a great breakfast experience with lots of choices, so one never knows!
